Is it possible/worth fitting 197 injectors and rail to a 172?

  Phase 1 Clio 172
Hi just a quick thread to see if any one knows if its a possible and worth while mod to fit 197 injectors and rail to my 172 for increased fuelling all help and information will be greatly received thank you

no, I wouldn't. The 197 injectors have a bit of an unusual tip, they have a long thin "nozzle". They're not that much bigger than 172 ones either. If you really need larger (you probably dont) then megane 225 injectors are ideal, and on fuel systems with a return line an inline regulator (ie not in tank reg and single feed) they'll flow enough fuel for 300bhp with an excellent spray pattern. You'll need to control them well though. stock are good for "about" 200bhp. Biger injectors wont give you more power though, just the fuel flow capability to facilitate other modifications

Cool thank you for the reply just having thoughts of what to do was going to match my inlets and then sort some more fuel out... Sounds like you know what you talking about when it comes to clios? What would you recommend engine mods wise as I've just got a 172 and I'm tracking it... Would you just recommend throttle bodies? Possibly bike ones??

Throttle bodies tend to be quite expensive, but are well worth doing if you have the budget for it.

If you can make a set of bike ones fit it yourself, and convert it to aftermarket it and remap it ok yourself etc then its quite a cheap option that will work ok, although the problem with bike setups is that the intake lengths tend to be a bit short for something with 500cc per cylinder like an F4R

Will work ok, just not as well as a "proper" kit

top right search bar m8 for track setups all been talked about and tried and tested before :)

519 is a company that will sort it all for you if you give him the £s and the time :)

Bike bodies are an arse ache. They're not cheap really once you take the extra work of adapting them into account

Wish I'd said no to this really......

You live and learn. Off the shelf would have been easier and to a better standard.

If people are enjoying working on their own car, then their time doesnt cost them anything as such.
Certainly true from a commerical point of view though.

I found out that the 197 injectors can be fitted in a 1*2 manifold, but can the ECU regonize the "new" injectors and fully work?
If not, what can be done?
Question is i have to probably change mine, been having a bit of a problem with my knock sensor and after changing for a new one, problem remains, so...

Cheers Kamalao

You do realise that if you fit bigger injectors with the same injector pulse duration in the map as currently that it means it will inject more fuel, and that means your engine will run richer, which will lose it power and make the economy worse?

I understand that, i can tune the ECU after, my question is does the ecu recognizes the injectors. The currents are Magnetti Mareli wp042 right? The 197´s are siemens deka. And that´s probably it, don´t know mutch more info about them.
You say they are bigger? How mutch bigger? current is 250cc.

Cheers

Not got the specs to hand for the 197 sorry so not sure what CC they are, should be easy enough to find out though.

The ecu doesnt need to recognise them, it just pulses them, it doesnt care what they are providing they are high impedance so they dont cook the injector drivers.

Its not like a modern diesel where they are coded or anything.

You can fit higher flowing injectors and it will just work as before but now overfuel.

Thanks a lot for the tip.
So my only concern is to put them in! Think that´s no problem! :p

I have to change them anyways so why not upgrade a bit? Don´t you agree?
It´s not like a have a real need of flow with my current mod list i know. I have that in mind.

Current injectors are Magneti Marelli IWP042 - 240cc (at 3bar, up to 310cc at 5 bar). You can try MM IWP043 - they are 330cc at 3 bar/up to 426cc at 5 bar (4-hole conical spray pattern) - i think this is OK with some small airflow tuning like porting, induction kit even without remap. Megane 225 injectors are near 400cc so it is too much for standard inlet manifold and should be used with ITB or turbos (with remap).
