Is my clutch jiggered???

For a couple of thousand miles I have had a fairly quiet "gurgling"
noise when the clutch peddle has been depressed. It's quite hard to describe this noise, but with the stereo on you couldn't hear it.

Yesturday I noticed it seemed to judder when setting off or reversing. Today it has got worse and the original noise is louder. The biting point seems difficult to find and it needs more revs when setting off.

I wondered if the plates were slipping, so I tried setting off on level ground in fifth gear but they didn't slip at all.

I'll be taking it somewhere tomorrow, but wondered if anyone had suffered similar problems? Could it be gearbox related?

Cheers,
Ed

It didn't seem as bad this morning when it had cooled down.

If you disconnect the clutch cable under the bonnet and manually press in the clutch mechanism you can feel a grinding. Would this indicate my release bearing has had it?

Could be release bearing. Dads scenic is the same, opnly that judders really bad on moving off - to the point where you feel like its going to stall! He thinks theres high spots on the clutch plates and they need taking of and skimming.

It only makes the noise when the clutch is pressed in and no I don't think it sounds like that. Is that what that is James, shagged clutch release bearing?

Maybe the clutch cable needs re-greasing/replacing?

I disconnected the cable so I could press in the clutch by hand under the bonnet, and it was when doing this that I felt something grinding. So I think the cable itself is ok.

It's been off the road for a week now, a transmission specialist
started work on it Wednesday and have still not finished. My clutch release bearing was knackered, it had taken out teeth on the plate, damaged the shaft it spins on and the lever in front of it.

Then pieces of metal were found in the gearbox oil, which turned out to be a bearing (the gearbox has been completely stripped down) and it also needed a new seal. With a bit of luck she will be back on the road for the weekend, but not before my bank balance has taken abit of hammer. How much hammer I'm still not too sure of yet.
