Is super resin polish enough

H

Huffski

I am a complete noob at washing cars all i do is wash with a micro fibre sponge + shampoo then dry with a shammy leather then wax it with autogly super resin. Is this enough. Im noticing the paint has a few tar marks and on the boot even after i have polished it if you run your hand over it, it feels rough and there is tiny black specs. Would giving it a clay sort it? Also just a quick question whats the difference between wax and polish and should i be using both? Cheers

SRP is not a wax. It's a polish. Claying will sort the tar, or some tar remover (like Auto Glym Intensive Tar Remover).

Polish . . . polishes! Wax . . . waxes! Prepare with a polish, seal with a wax.

This warrants a long reply, have a look in the guide on here,

But yeah, claying would remove the tar, SRP wouldn't do anything as it is a 'filler' polish rather than a cutting polish,

Waxing after SRP would be a good idea, as SRP's protection is quite limited,

And don't use a leather shammy, they are crap!

you sound fed up jamie lol

I'm so bored Paul, the search function is broken these days.

SRP IS A POLISH THEREFORE OFFERS NO PROTECTION AT ALL.

Oops, hit the caps lock . . .

  Black Gold Trophy
^well it does slightly as it also has sealant in it, but you would have to reapply several times to get the real benefits of the sealant. I prefer not to use all in one products and have my polish in one bottle and sealant in another, but considering some of the rubbish halfords sell, SRP is ok.

It contains fillers. Not sealents. You can't expect something to polish, fill and seal and protect all in one :S??

  182 (Conversion)
It will offer a few days/week of "protection" (beading) but you deffo need a sealant/wax as a Last Stage Protection

It will bead because of the fillers. It has not protected the paint and will therefore leave it open to contaminents. If you drive the car/take it outside before you have sealed or at least waxed the car you are undoing all of your work - i.e. wasting time.

My point exactly.

Detailer and geneticist. Who're you going to trust. Apart from Brisa, he's a doctor doncha know.

Whats the best wax/sealant to use?

Sealent, Chem Guys Blitz Spray.

Wax, what's your budget? Once you know your budget search "wax" in the detailing section and it will bring up thousands of threads, both listing and comparing all the waxes available.

Lol, wouldnt spend anymore than £40 on a pot of wax.

Yeah you can, its called, show room shine, the waterless wash and wax as seen on many shopping channels
:dead:

Although it is good for doing inside the doors tbh

Extra gloss protection works well with super resin polish. Did my fabia back in feb. Protection lasted around 3-4 months. Just done the wifes 182. But this time used 2 layers of egp and also topped it off with collinite 915 wax.

SRP and EGP is a very well respected set of products to use. It is also my standard reply to most new people to car washing.

lols, of course it is.

I sealed my car with blitz and it gave nice big beads but I waxed it with 476 the other day and now it beads very small and lots of them, like REAL small. Is that just how 476 is?

Don't AG do an AIO, the Ultra Deep Shine stuff..., isn't that a cleaner, filler, polish and sealant! Have used it before yes, didn't like it! Weird to apply, kinda greasy, smells like bubblegum though hehe! Still got a bottle of it sat in the garage ha!!

Now use the SRP, EGP combo, easy to apply and yea great results without the need to spend a fortune!!

Graham, lots of companies say they do an all in one. But it's like saying you can cut, sand and stain a piece of wood with one product.

Polishing takes tiny amounts of lacquer off to level it out, i.e. get rid of scratches. If a sealent lies on top of this layer of lacquer, it will be removed by the polish. If a substance contains both it will counteract itself lol!

(Informational post, non argumental ;))

jamie , i have a blue car and i can 'feel' my swirls. Ive tried washing these swirls out with some turtle wax shampoo but it has done nothing. Would super resin be enough to remove these by hand or is it a respray im looking at?? Sorry for going slightly off topic. I was going to search but couldnt be bothered so any input would be great.

I don't like the new scary Jamie. :(

Hi Paul,

Oh, OK, well in that case I would suggest the following; if you can feel the swirls you have a slight issue. This is caused by acid rain fall out. This creates tiny holes in your paint work. Not only could this have affected the body, but also the rest of the car's major components, such as steering, tyres, engine and other vital components. I would take it to your local scrap yard and take advantage of the Government's scrappage scheme. Get that 2k and spend it on a tank. These possess the necessary armament to protect against acid rain. However, one point I will make is that some may not be suited to depleted Uranium locations. I would therefore suggest that you talk to NASA (rather than the UK equivalent, as they will just loose you and make up some story about it still being a successful mission). They can provide you with an All Terrain Vehicle and supply the necessary boost to get you to the Moon. Due to the lack of water in this environment, there is no rain. This means there can be no acidic rain or fall out and thus protects you and your paint. One note I will make is to take lots of paper weights with you, as these can be placed into the tyres of your amphashite wheels, creating a solution to the 0 gravity environment up there.

Hope this helps,

Best regards,

Jamie

JD, wasn't looking to start an argument :rasp:

Can see your point, and does make sense!! But, i thought the UDS was aimed for lazy people hehe, e.g. one application and it was all done :S

Often read bout people applying EGP on top of the UDS, i thought EGP couldn't bond to this and was a waste of time in doing so!

Wash (two-bucket) => dry => clay => UDS*
Wash (two bucket) => dry => clay => SRP => EGP => HD Wax*

*add rinsing, foaming, quick detailing spray etc above, but general method hehe!
