Is this a dangerous harness bar?

  172
Long story short, I've seen this on facebook in a 197. Not naming the company who made it but I know they have zero experience making safety equipment and very limited knowledge in my eyes.

They've created this 'harness bar' for a 197, it looks questionable at best in my eyes.
Anyone care to share their own 2 pence about wether it serves a purpose/is dangerous?

That looks absolutely shocking . Looks like a shopping trolley bar , re-worked with side skirts that bolt to the OE seatbelt moveable point .
That wouldn't hold s**t in an accident imo

My thoughts exactly, it doesn't serve great purpose. It slightly alters the angle of the harness but the design and build is questionable

At least the harnesses aren't fixed to the bar itself.
Worst case scenario, you just get your bonce split wide open in an accident

Doesn't look like a harness bar as such.

It's more like they've made it so that it raises the angle of the harnesses, whether it works or is safe is another question.

In theory it might work

  A special one.
There is only 1 fixing point at each end, in a crash the bar will swing out of the way and the harness will become loose.

That's going to do fcuk all.

?!?

If they didn't use a bit of flimsy plate to fix it to the seatbelt mounting points, put a secondary mounting point on it and didn't fix the belts to the floor, I'm sure it'd be ok

I wouldn't want to be in a crash with that set up

Yeah I feel sorry for the person who paid for it. Not sure what they asked for but it's certainly not up to what I would call safe, just wanted to check it wasn't just me

Original post for anyone interested.

I stand corrected it's a 'seatbelt support bar' not a harness bar.

Someone didn't actually pay for that did they?!

That looks like a mock up that he made for the lols. He can't have put that in another persons car?!

...just saw that screenshot. "Clio RS!" Lol.

Ignoring everything else, the pointy corners at the mounting points are capable of inflicting horrendous body damage in the event of an end over end.

Changing the angle of the harnesses, it probably makes it dangerous

A proper harness bar will make things safer. The instructions for harness fitting state that the rear mounting points can't be too low, and for good reason since it can cause spinal compression if you mount them so your shoulders are the pointy bit of a triangle. The harness bar is supposed to make sure that the belts head into the back of the seat on a line roughly level with your shoulders, eliminating this.

However this... This is s**t.

In a front end collision the way the harnesses are mounted to the floor indicates to me that the forces would be pulling the bar down which doesn't look like that (loosely said) much of an issue.

Would I drive it like that? Would I f**k.
