Issue whilst braking

  Clio Sport 172
Whilst driving home from work the other night i noticed that while breaking coming upto a junction the pedal seemed to kick back at me (as if id slammed the anchors on and the abs kicked in), I wasnt breaking hard though and the ABS light did not show up on the dash.

Has anyone else had similiar experiences and know what ths issue is, could it be a case of warped discs or could my pads be low. I've not had a chance to take a look myself yet, will hopefully get round to it tomorrow if the weathers dry, but i bought the car off a good friend a few months bk and am 99% sure he said he hadnt long replaced the pads & discs just before i had it :/

Has it happened more than once ?! Were you going fast or slow ?

Could be a broken ring, slippery road, naff tyres (i.e.: no grip), diesel, drain covers etc...

IIRC, the rears are on the discs, but the front rings are a separate part ?

Re: Issue whilst breaking

Yh its a regular thing now, everytime i brake the pedal is trying to shoot bk up, wasnt travelling fast only about 40mph when it 1st happened, but it seems to do it if im doing 20mph or 70mph regardless of what surface im on

Car does have budget tyres on it but i've owned it last 7 months and never had this trouble upto now, which makes me think it couldnt be down to them.

Soz to sound a bit dumb hear but im not all that mechanically minded, what do you mean by the rings & IIRC?? :/

If I Remember Correctly.

The ABS ring is a toothed ring, which the sensor watches and therefore knows if one side is not rotating compared to the other. Could be that, or it could be your crappy rubber.

Budget tyres ... get rid of them ASAP. False economy. They're the only thing providing traction remember ;)

Is it something you'd say is possible to sort yourself or would you think it best to get booked into a gge. Are there any threads on here on how to change one??

Got the car jacked up earlier guys and the abs ring is cracked on the drivers side, im assuming you can replace the ring on its own???? Anyone know if this is a fiddly job to sort & wheres the best place to get a replacement ring from??

Yes, you can get the ring on its on, but youll need to take seperate the CV joint from the hub (which isnt a big task in itself)

Take the old ring with you to ensure you get one with the correct number of teeth

Just take it to a garage.
