ITB's - Do they need balancing?

My ITB setup has always been a little on the 'pop and bang' side and with a lumpy-ish idle but has run pretty well nonetheless. However, over the last month or so I have noticed that the drive has got somewhat worse, especially around the 1800rpm and 2250rpm mark. In fact, driving along steady around that rev range often results in the car 'jumping' and near-on stalling. It makes driving in traffic and through my housing estate extremely difficult, as it does slowing down and negotiating junctions, roundabouts and so on.

Being an ITB noob, is this sort of behaviour likely due to the bodies not being sufficienly balanced?

Thanks in advance. :)

Ring Matt first before posting IMO mate. They are always willing to help. Might be sensor related

Throttle bodies and balanced then locked off.... its not like a carb they shouldn't just go out of sync... most likely sensor related!

oh, the getting worse bit sounds quite like lambda sensor by the way, although it's worth checking if any linkage has come loose. Keeping ITB's balanced is part of normal servicing procedure

Thanks for the advice and suggestions folks.
A quick inspection suggests that linkages are good (although admittedly I'm no expert) and I'm beginning to think it is - as you guys suggest - a sensor issue.

I feel an expensive month coming up... just paid insurance, car tax due, MOT, service needed (oil and filter change), 4 new tyres, brake discs and pads all round, 2 new driveshafts (the CV's have gone again and I'm not resealing and regreasing again as this will be the 2nd/3rd time each side) and - worse of all - I think one of my trick Sachs dampers is screwed. Nearest reputable ClioSport specialist to South Wales who can also look into my potential ITB issues? Anyone? LOL! :D

Again - thanks for the help, always appreciated.

You think that's expensive? Put all those things you listed plus a replacement engine, calibration and new wiring loom on top of that :(

I feel your pain mate, I really do. :(

^ I'm still paying off the results of having to have my engine fixed (on top of having paid for the ITB's) on top of having to pay for the recovery and transport of Matt's Cup from Wales to TDF (when I 'broke it') on top of the things I list above and on top of the fact that Renault are quoting me £1400 for a new damper. All in I've spent 7.5k on the Trophy for one reason or another over the last few months :( It's double what I had planned on spending...

...hence why I'm thinking "sod it" and am looking to get the Trophy cammed, aircon deleted and a few other bits! If I'm getting into debt for the first time ever I want to do it properly! LOL! :D

Joking aside, I hope you're soon back on an even keel mate. Frackin' Clio's...

You can get the dampers rebuilt for under half that Andy, and we can find out any lamba issues tomorrow - I have an RS tuner so if you have some spare time after we have finished we can pop back to my house and il check the fault codes for you. Il have a good look over it for you and we can have a chat and il explain in more detail

you need GEN90 software, and a dongle to access the ECU

Speak to Ktec Andy regarding ECU software they emailed it to me. 'Gen tuner lite' it's called.

Cheers Russ - it would be good to have a chat. I have a free day pretty much so if you're free and happy to spare some time then that would be cool. If we head back to yours I might be cheeky and ask to borrow some of your gear so I can better check out the state of the dampers, driveshafts and so on. It has been running peachy but all of a sudden it's all started to turn bad! And you know how well looked after the Trophy is! Either way, I look forward to catching up with you tomorrow. :D

Surely if you've bought the ECU though they give you the software? That sucks hard if not
Nah - no software was provided mate. Not even a mention of it. But...

...thanks for the heads-up Marc. I'll drop them a call or email so I can get it sent over. :)

standalone ECU's don't log fault codes like standard ones do. You can do see far more from sensor feedback though, so finding a faulty sensor is easy once you have the software
Cheers Dan - will take a look as soon as the software arrives.

Thanks for the continued feedback folks.

Mr Scone - I hope she is soon back with you and running as sweet as. I'm sure it will be worth the wait and expense. If not, we can find a pub and go drown our sorrows together. :D
