ITG Panel Filter Question

  BMW M3
Hi Guys,

Fitted my panel filter this morning, cleaned the housing etc..and took it for a wee run... All seems fine and it even feels smoother. Although that might be my imagination lol.

Anyway, got back on the drive and gave it a few short revs to 2.5k, and noticed on the way back down, it makes a whooshing noise at 1500rmp.

It sounds quite smart, and i dont mind it at all, but just wondering if this is normal, or have i fitted something incorrectly?

Thanks

lol... cheers mate. Just thought the noise might be due to something not tightened and air getting in from somewhere else.

Thanks

Its a 10 minute job max...undo the airbox screws replace air filter panel, tighten up screws....bada bing!!! Easy as 1-2-3!!

Yeah... not too hard at all. The only time consuming part is getting the torx out if you havnt quite got the right tool. And make sure they dont drop.

Everybody should own a Torx drive set :)

Just check the seal is aligned correctly Justin and that indeed you haven't loosened the elbow by mistake, but you do get a nicer induction note, albeit fairly quiet.

Yeah... the seal did seem fine and everything is solid so prob just normal.

I'm sure it does sound different on the move but very slightly. When you put you foot down, its like its got a mini turbo cause i can hear very slight hissing.

Hm...can't say that i've heard that on mine, if there a rip it in anywhere? Seems odd...But would you be able to make a recording or isn't it very prominent?

I get a slight hissing sound whenever I put my foot down in my 172 and AFAIK I still have the original filter. It's been the same since I bought it in Feb.

Dont think it would be picked up on a recording. Have to listen very very carefully and i am really paranoid/ picky about things on my car, so its probably not a problem. lol.

Still fast as feck though...

I changed the panel in mine to a Green cotton one and haven't noticed any difference in noise over the OE one.

Could try Demon Tweeks..they stock a s** load of filters...think the K&N panel is around £25
