Its all gone pete tong (spraying probs)

Right...

... been refurbing my wheels over weekend (theres a thread in media and pics somewhere)... was all going good but its a bit grainy feel after ive applied 2 layers of laquer.. think I should of maybe sanded down a bit with wet 1500 paper before I for applied a few coats of laquer.

Just wondering really.. can I rescue it... by sanding down till smooth with 1500 wet.. just to paint layer not down to primer, then apply another coat or two of silver (sanding down between each one) then after a night of proper drying apply some laquer.

Please help !

To repair the grainy feel in the laquer, wait till the paint/laquer is nice and hard. Wet sand with some 2000 grit, and then polish, should come out all smooth and shiny.

Maybe a really dumb question, but can you explain wet sand?

Does it have to be under running water?

What are the advantages (wet instead of dry)?

When using very fine papers to sand they fill up with the removed material very quickly so it the water cleans off the dust. The water lubricates the suface to help the finish become nice and smooth. The origional old school way I was taught to do it was with bars of hand soap. Now I mix up some car wash solution in a buckets of water, dip the paper in that and flat away with 2000 grit or finer if I can find it on laquer.
