Got in the car this morning and a flashing '-1' came on the dash. First freezing temp of the year for me, so hopefully the 172 Cup owners are taking it a little easy with the Stop pedal..... ;)

well I don't know what it was like this morning as I was nicely tucked up in my bed, but when I came home at about 8pm tonight the car said it was 2 degrees. Our other two cars were misting up quite nicely and the little 1.2 wasn't over happy about starting. Bless her. It is definitely going to get rather nippy tonight. I won't be driving anymore tonight so I won't be worrying about icey roads, but I do hope others that do have to go out will take it easy and stay safe.

When it gets really icey goto a carpark were there isnt anything to hit and see what it's like when you loose the car at slow speeds. Its actually quite frightening that you no longer can steer the car and braking doesnt help, but will give you an idea what it's like.

I did this last year and about 2 weeks later it happened for real. I span out on the M1 very very lucky nothing was about and I didnt hit anything. I was only doing about 40mph becuase of the conditions/early morning and it still happened even though I thought I'd be OK. There is very little you can do other than do nothing rash like hammer the anchors turn out of it, plus hope and prey that you. I think if I hadnt have felt the car go like it did in Sainsburys car park I would have paniced and made things worse.

Nothing has ever woken me up more than spinning out on a motorway and ending up facing the wrong way up the carriageway.

Happy Time!

^^s**t, scary! I'm not looking forward to the icy roads, but I think I will have a practice in an empty car park.

I had -3 when i got in my 182 this morning. Took it very easy today, it was dry enough but engine took a long while to warm up.

Anyone know the what the weather will be like towards the end of this month? A lot colder, or pretty much the same?

ive already crahed my cup, and that was due to the wet, i think i popped the cheery this year actually for crashed cups, mine was one of about 4 that have had a smash so far.

I have been driving for long time now but I still don't like driving in icey conditions. It doesn't matter how good a driver you are, you can still get caught out. I'm lucky because I don't work, so I don't have to go out if i don't want to, and believe me I try and avoid going out when the roads are bad if I can. Just be careful folks.

Couple of things to say.

Firstly I am chuffed to be part of this forum for the very comments that have taken place above. Lovely to see people in possesion of such high tempo cars that also house the knowledge not to drive like a bellend in the wrong conditions...You make me proud people!

Secondly, I too would also strongly recommend that you do the frozen car park testing. This is, as stated, a good way to experience what you will face should you lose control of your motor. I have found over the years of doing such tests that if you tap your hand break with a minute turn until the back end comes through 90 degrees (Car going forwards in sideways position) you slow down alot quicker then and are then able to turn the front wheels in the direction of your travel and bring your car under control again.

Hope this helps.

I'm sure you're right but I don't think I'll be testing that theory...
