jacking the car up with standard jack?

Hi,

I want to do about an hours work under one front wheel arch, am i ok to use the standard jack for this as i dont have any axle standands, I wont be under the car so i wont be crushed.

depends on what your doing, if its just like painting or changing pads then i would say it was ok but like changing suspension or soemthing you mgith shake it off the jack

You should be ok as long as you DO NOT go under the car. These jacks are designed for emergency use only....changing spare when out on the open road. They aren't that stable but if you are careful and know what you are doing you should be ok. Jack up on flat solid ground checking the jack stays level whilst lifting.
It might be wise to invest in a trolly jack as these are only £20 from Halfrauds and would be far safer, or borrow one if you can.

For what it's worth, just go to halfords and spend £5 on some axle stands ;)

You'll always need them at some point so why not get them now? :)

By standard jack, you mean the one in the boot? That thing scares me.
