Jerky throttle on mk1 RT

  mk1 ph1 1.4 RT
Hiya :)

Sorry my first post here is a request for help - promise not to make a habit of it!

I have a 1994 RT (1.4) that I've been running for a month now (since I passed) and it runs nicely, but there's one little niggle I have with it: the throttle has a really jerky bit at the top of the pedal. In a low gear, if I rest my foot onto the accelerator, barely touching it, the car jolts forward, and if I come off it again it jolts again. Further down in the pedal it works absolutely fine.

Clean air filter, new oil, high mileage but runs fine. There's a bit of slack in the accelerator cable but I don't see how that would make it jerk particularly - plus Haynes says there should be a lot of slack.

Any clues?

Thanks a lot in advance
Jonathan
