Just been to see a Mk1 172...Please help

  German Barge
Hello all, haven't dropped by here for some time now.

I am currently looking selling the V6, as more seats are in order! as well as freeing some cash up for house, business etc...

Mk1's seem to be good value at the moment. This car is up for £4200... he has offered me £8000 plus his car for my Mk1 V6.

Now, the details are its on 85k, Mot till end of the year, so is the tax.... Had its cam belt change etc etc... will be needing new discs and pads, first thing i noticed, and the front bumper needs tidying up, with stone chips etc. The seats were a little worn, and the steering wheel was tatty, but generally not "too" bad.

My main cocerns were.. the accelerator pedal was quite "hard" to press, was quite stiff, and had a bit of a stiff feel when first depressing you foot down - im assuming this would be a quick fix with a new accelerator cable?

secondly, i would be looking at changing the clutch.. as this was also quite jerky when bringing your foot up... (when i say jerky i dont mean the car, i mean the clutch seemed to have points where it was stiff, similar to that of the accelerator)

any other advise you can give me, or pointers to look out for on my second visit. Also, could you advise me on things to listen out for as did seen to have a raspy, rattle noise when going up through the rev range - is that the famous "3k rattle?"

Thanks in advance.

yep sounds like the rattle but thats mainly around 4k, my accelerator is v smooth all the way, no jerkiness on clutch, they all whistle a bit from engine when running, all front bumpers seem to be a slight misfit, never 2 the same, should have led by gearstick to indicate alarm fitted and UK spec, all steering wheels wear a bit smooth .

Yep new cable fixes the stiff throttle assuming its stiffer than your've seen on other cars.
Clutch chnage is £300~ £400 all in depends who you go to use the stock Renault clutch though go get it yourself don't let anyone fob you off with there own ones there all useless compared to stock IMO.

Try the specialist clutch places most garages don't liek clutch changed on the cars.

The 4 k rattle happens at 4k its the back box rattling it only happend at 3k might be a lose mount at 3k depends how bad it is.

I wouldn't pay that much though £3.8k though there one on the forum for £3.3k with a few more miles.
