Just bought 182

  RenaultSport clio 182
Just bought 182 at the weekend and have a couple of questions:-

Idle seems very rough, not only when cold but also when stopping at junctions etc. when warmed up. Dealer tells me that car just serviced, and that "they all do that". Is this correct ?

Also, thought car was supposed to have rain-sensing wipers. However, have found that they appear to only be variable intermittent, they sweep whether there is rain on screen or not. Have moved stalk to first position as per manual, but they continue to sweep consistently dependant on delay setting. Any ideas ?

Regards

Al

Welcome to CS.

Mine only idles lumpy and rough from cold, once warm it seems fine.

Not sure on the wipers, mine doesnt do rain!

Hello and welcome Al.

Mine is the same when cold, I leave mine tick over for 5 mins before I go out in it.

As for the wipers there is an adjustment on the right hand stalk. Hope this helps?

My 182 Cup idle still seems slightly 'rough/ lumpy' even when warm. If I sit back in the seat with my head against the rest you can feel the movement of the car due to the engine. Obviously it isn't a huge movement, but it never seems completely smooth. Is that like yours Al 182?

Yes, that just about describes it, every 5 seconds or so the revs drop, then come back up. It does not stall though. Seems to idle at about 750rpm, dropping slightly below that before coming back again.

Yes it is lumpy because it is a high rev engine. This is what the sales man told me and it sounds good.

Hmm, I still get the same lumpy idle with 97 and 98 RON - but I don't mind, not exactly a hardship!

The poor idle is down to the fuel mapping. The only reason its mapped like it is for cold running is because of emissions rules.
They cna idle perfectly my old WIlliams was tunned on cams etc and idled perfectly lower than the 172 do.

The idleing sounds ok mate.

The wipers seem incorrect. if you are in position ONE they will only move when rain is detected on windscreen. if they wipe when dry I would say you have a fault.

They are all pretty lumpy compared to most modern isolated engine setups. When cold they can be very hesitant for a mile or two, but they're all lumpy hot or cold.

Mines a b1tch all the time, needs a 36K service mind you but it's always been lumpy, my girlfriend especially hate sdriving it from cold, it's a nightmare. As for the wipers, mines a 172 that I've had for over a year now and I just turn them on when I want, given up on the autos!!

most ppl's r rough when cold , but once warmed up should be ok ,defo a trip to renault if it is still sounding rough after been warmed up .

also quote me if i'm wrong but is not a bad idea to keep your car just ticking over , doesn't it damage the cat or summert ?????

Mine is the same even more so when cold, with a custom SS and a decat you notice it even more. I kinda like it :)
Welcome to CS - enjoy your new car mate :D

Yeah my blueflame is making mine more lumpy/rough - still sounds even better when cold, louder!!!

I noticed when I bought my 182 that the flywheel is very light on these cars as the engine can generate enough inertia to spin the cogs in the gearbox very easily. Light flywheel = lumpy idle.

Properly remaped 172/182's don't have lumps idle even ones with ligthened flywheels.

I guess, but compared with something like a golf 1.8t it has. I love the way you can just touch the pedal ever so lightly in the 182 and it revs nice and smoothly.
