Just bought a second car - need isnurance for a month

I have just bought a second car which will be the daily drive, the 172 is then goign to be SORN'd when its insurance runs out at the end of September as I want to drive it to Castle Combe in September so I need it insuring.
If I get a new policy with the new car I wont be able to use any of my no claims, as they are on the 172. I ideally want to not renew the current policy and then use the no claims on the new car.
I am happy to pay a small premium to put the new car on my current policy and keep the 172 on it to, is this possible - have two cars on one policy?
I would phone the insurance company up and ask but seeing as they are all premium phone numbers I don't want to waste my money to be told I can't do it.

Best bet is to ask greenlight insurance on here as they specialise in renaultsports I think.

The second car is actually another Clio! Just a non-sport.
Currently insured through Adrian Flux. When I get the 172 back on the road I will probs go with Greenlight, this time they didnt offer drive any car 3rd party as I was too young by less than a month when I started my policy.

Just ring your insurance up an ask for temp cover. I've just done the same thing and with Allianz, cost £12 for two weeks.

This is the best way to do it as suggested by Danny. If you call your existing company and ask for a "Temp Add vehicle" they will be able to add the second car onto your policy usually you can buy 7 or 14 days at a time.

Alternatively you could do the temp insurance via www.tempcover.com who do a daily insurance where you can specify the exact number of days needed.

Thanks for the advice. Greenlight wont cover the car as it is non modified. And Flux were a little better, but not competative on the price as I needed to geta new policy. Having problems with mirroring my no claims. I have a quote from Endlsigh at £250 but have to get proof of my no claims to them within 28 days which is just a little bit too long (by about three days!) if I started the policy this week. Probs the best bet it to temp cover the car to get it to my parents this weekend and store it there until September and then star a new policy when the 172 runs out.

Also I just thought, I need to tax the car too, which I need insurance for.
Can I tax it with temp cover insurance?
Also got a call back from Flux tomorrow to ask about temp cover as they guy I have just spoken too never actually gave this option. He was probably being a sneaky salesman but lucky I said no to his offer of £600 for the new policy as I know I can get it for less than half that in a month's time (providing the premiums don't change!!)

Take out a policy from Compare the market and then cancel within the cancellation period (might even be 30 days). If you don't claim in that time you'll get a full refund.

I know, it makes no sense!
The new policy that Adrian Flux quoted mirrored the no claims as I was already insured with them, and they would only mirror 7 years so when the current policy lapses I will lose out on a year. The £250 quote was with the no claims and the woman said if you take the policy out now you have 28 days to send them proof, but the 28 days wasn't quite long enough by like a few days. They also wouldn't start the quote with zero and then ammend it next month when I have the 8 years no claims on no cars. I am not losing my no claims, I have worked hard for them!!!

Does that then mean if you crash one car, you wouldn't need to declare that on the other cars insurance?

I think that's right, my sister in law had a bump with another car in a car she had borrowed for the day; she/the owner went through the insurance to get the damage fixed on that car but it doesn't affect her insurance policy at all as didn't claim on her policy. Owners policy is fine as well!

That's completely different circumstance though?

Just so you know, you don't need insurance to buy the tax anymore, just a valid MOT.
