Just bought my first Clio... A v6

Hi all, clio newbie here and new to the forum.
Bought this 2 days ago, it's not moved in a few years. Got it back to Manchester and started work on it.
so far I've replaced the spark plugs, all 6 coils, oil and filter (Mobil 1 0-40).
still need to change the air con pump as its seized from lack of use, also need to change the cambelt ant tensioners as soon as I get chance, and I've got the pedal box all stripped ready to replace the clutch master cylinder when it arrives tomorrow

What are the common faults with these and what should I be looking out for?

also does anyone know the car?

nice :) any more pics? you familiar with the cambelts and timing on these? usually a specialist job?

I've just signed up to the v6clio forum too. I'm an mot tester/mechanic by trade anyway so cambelt shouldn't be a problem. I'm just weighing up whether I can do it in situ or not. I've heard it's engine out, but I've got the hands of a schoolgirl so if its physically possible I'll do it lol

Lol yeah they're terrible, they've been on there since 2004 though so I suppose they were ok at the time... Unfortunately it's got matching fronts too:banghead:

Did you buy this at auction mate? Just curious as I believe my neighbour was just about to drop a handful of grand on buying one the other day and it might have been this very car... sounds like it from his description and what you've said! :D

Either way, good luck with it and enjoy. :D

It came up on Gumtree of all places lol I wasn't even in the market for one but it came up at a price I couldn't miss out on. So two hours after he'd advertised it I'd put a deposit down and picked it up the following day. :eek:

Last one we had in the engine come out for the belts, but I do know some people like to do them with the engine in, so it can be done both ways, your just have to have a look and see if your girl hands are up to it ;)

I think you should all count yourselves luck; plastic or metal, at least you've all got one!!!

Im still having trouble locating my number to to the 'import' status of my Vee!! (and somebodys nicked the plaque!!)

Pretty much given up now

to do the belt PROPERLY its engine out, no way you can time it up perfectly with the engine in, NO WAY! if you're near Birmingham you can borrow the special cradle from me if you want, and the 8 locking pins AND the setting tools (its £1100 for all the tools by the way! LOL)

Fred, that is a very generous offer that I may have to take you up on! I'm actually not that far from you, maybe 30-40 mins but well worth it to have the right tools. Thank you so much

i'd rather drop a running angle grinder down my trousers than do it in situ!

I think it was when i said you can do a Ferrari 360 in situ that you might have read

timing up a 172/182 in situ is easy enough, bit of a tw*t, but on the V6 you have 2 dephasers and all 4 pulleys are adjustable (and have to be undone when fitting a new cambelt) you can get the timing right but the belt tension wrong and vice versa etc, its 2-3 hours to drop the engine out, so why struggle!

I've never actualy done one as just a cambelt change, they always have the clutch done too

but with everything its around £1250ish off the top of my head

How can you tell it's a ph1 from that picture? It's dark as fook! You been eating your carrots?! ;)
