Just got rotary polisher now I need pads!

  ph1 172 Black
Hi

My mate is an ex valeter and we've brought a rotary between three of us. All we need now is some pads or mops.

Which is better them big sponge mops or 5 inch backing plate and some 6 inch Megs pads.

He wants to do his van which has had sign writing on it. Got some compound that will be strong enough.
I want to just polish my black 172. Not really got swirls. Odd scratch on bonnet and stone chips.

Just need a cheap pad/mop for his van as shine isn't really what he's after and I want a pad/mop that won't create swirls to my paint work. We're on a big of a budget so any suggestions of what to get and where to get it from.

BTW it's the orange silverline rotary.

Not creating Swirls in the paint with the rotary is as much down to skill finishing down to a perfect finish as it is in pad choice. On Black this is an art in itself and is why most rotary polished cars get holograms in the finish.

Most of the Rotary guys go for the Meauiars Pads for rotary use.

Cheers Rich.

I was thinkin use slowest speed and keep moving around. My mate said they used to use water as well to keep heat down. Think slowest speed is 900 rpm and next 1500.

He seems confident cause he used to do cars everyday but it all still makes me nervous!

Heard applying SRP works much better by machine.

I would get over onto detailingworld and read Barzo's rotary guide on there, there should be no need to use water the panels as they should not get to the stage they get that warm.

SRP works lovely by PC thats for sure.

As long as you center the pad well it is fairly smooth, but it seems some machine's may be smoother than others, bit like buying a french car you get Monday ones and Friday ones.

Ha ha Monday or Friday ones!

Can't seem to get a working link to Barzo's guide. Been on DetailingWorld a fair bit. Heard to use some QD on pad to stop it drying out. Thought might start with Megs #80 on Megs Finishing pad (cream one. ) Then SRP. Does EGP apply ok with machine as well. Heard it does for thin layer.

What sort of speed should I be looking to use?

Drop him a PM if you can't find the link sure he will point you in the right direction to it. He is the Rotary master ( when he is no splattering me in the face with it ;) )

Yeah prime the pad first with a spritz of QD. EGP is so thin I still apply that by hand.

Just got myself one of these polishers too :)

Will the PC pads that I have fit or can I get a plate?

  ph1 172 Black
You'll need a plate. Thing silverline do one, sure seen it one ebay. The PC ones are smaller I think.

The rotary it's great. The silverline pads are crap. Slow start variable speed. All you need really. Got a friend who paid £110 for some other make and it's no better.

Anyone got a link for good pads for these? :)

Best pads for rotary are Megs, as rich said.

SFX spot pads are very good, but i would like to try the LC CCS spot ones aswell, as I do like their full size pads.
