my 172 had straight through decat exhaust, matched inlets, induction kit and a remap and i only got 134BHP! whats going on? that was on 5th run aswell first few runs it was only 124BHP

anyone know what could be wrong

i had it done in march properly. because i bought the car then the cambelt went because it hadnt been done properly before so it all should be good. he had all the proper locking kit and stuff

Just because he had all the tools doesn't necessarily mean it was done correctly though...

If you tell us your location we will be able to recomend you somewhere to take it who will do the timing accurately

Do you have the AFR printout, if its the cam timing throwing it out by that much you would expect it to go lean too.

Have you compression tested it?

People are obsessed with cam timing on this forum, and while it IS a problem on these engines, it isnt the only one!

Agreed, if the belt has "gone" before, it could well be a number of other things.

Compression test is far easier place to start than checking the timing.

Can someone explain what the issue is with people doing the timing wrong, what is it that they do/don't do?

Generally not quite time the belt in perfectly which loses a small amount of power, in rarer cases they get it more wrong and lose more power.

I've just had mine done in our garage with the Renault tools. I'm paranoid about it being done wrong because I see it mentioned so often on here!

Can it still be wrong using the proper tools?

Hammer and chisel are the proper tools for sculpting but even thoguh I have those I still cant do it.

  PH1 loads of boost!
Could be looooads of things causing a lack of power. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion of timing straight away.
Could be some sort of engine troubles, could be summit to do with your setup, could be summit daft like your tracking, could be the way the operator sat the car on the rollers, could be the rollers themselves.

Had my 172 cup on rollers last month pulled 177.5 at the fly wheel only got an ktr filter and paddle clutch as far as I'm aware

Loads of things can go wrong even with the right tools. The tensioners on these seem to baffle some people.
Checking the timing is easy. You need the pin, the horseshoe and the seals. A said it could also not be the timing.

Seeing the graph would be a good thing.

If it's 155 HP ATF that's not far off normal power. Normal is just above mid 160 so it's only 5 or 6% ish down on power. Modifications add almost zero extra power overall especially matched inlets (depends what the finish was before the work).

ah right ok. it felt slow in low rev range before the cam belt slipped but then after it was fixed it felt faster. ive never had a sport before so i dont really no if its as fast as it should be. then person at the rolling road said he diint recon it was on the roller properly because my car was to low. but can that make alot of difference?
