Just lost first gear...

Pulled upto a junction earlier whilst on a Sunday drive, went to select first gear, and it wasn't there! Tried the other gears they all felt fine, tried coming off the clutch then trying 1st again, still no luck, tried moving the car forward a bit in 2nd and tried 1st again, still no luck. So used 2nd to pull away to get home. So does anyone have any idea's on what could be the fault, gearbox feels like it was in great condition, although the clutch has a very high biting point, and i think it won't last a great deal longer, could that be the fault? I also fitted a solid upper gearbox mount yesterday although i have driven 50 odd miles since then with no problems.

Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like gearbox is on its way out, try selecting all gears with engine off if you cant select 1st gear then deff gearbox

Can't select first gear when engine is off, but all others are fine. Guess i need a new gear box then
