Just raced a Civic ...

Not sure exactly what it was though, it had type-r badges on it but it was the older style, not like the new type-r.. any ideas ?

anyway, raced it off traffic lights but could really go for it to start with cause it was wet and we were going round a roundabout onto the city bypass..

i pretty much pulled away until I hit the limiter for a bit too long in 3rd gear..oops.

he caught up a bit again after that, he seemed to pull back a bit when I went to 4th gear.. but as soon as it was in 5th i would pull away from him again.. all the way up to *30mph.

got slowed down by cars in the outside lane a couple of times, when they moved out of the way he stuck with me pretty much until 5th gear again.. then I would pull away.

gave me a flash at the end and I returned the favour with the hazard lights.. typical thing was though I was 2 up he was on his own, and I had just put my spare + tools + a whole load of other crap back into the boot. His car looked modded mine is standard.

I reckon if I was 1 up without my spare and tools plus I didnt have a full (goddamit) tank of fuel I would have pulled away a lot quicker.

It was a fun race though...

Was it white? Honda made a type-r spec 3 door for the jap market between 98 and 2000. Uses same 1.6 vtec engine as the vtis of that generation, but tuned to about 185 bhp, with rev limit close to 9000rpm (normal ones were 160bhp and 8000rpm). Well respected by honda fans, and very very few in the uk.

my mate has a civic coupe 1.5 lsi & that is quick. he can get 125 out of it & is quite quick on the up take 2. it only has a K&N & full powerflow exhaust along with 17" alloys & 40m lowering kit. so i rekon that it was eithe a 1.5 lsi or a slow vti! i know quite a few people with civics & they are quite quick car!!! not 2 be under estimated!!!!

Yeah somehow doubt it was that. It could of been a vti though, the small coupe looking ones, i think they have 160bhp std though dont quote me on it. I often seen those sort of age hondas with Type R badges adorned on them.

my mates got a civic vti k-reg, and its goes like sh*t of a shovel, tuned to about 180bhp, and as soon as the second cam kicks in at 6500 its one hell of a ride

Those old Type Rs do have some power
1.6 litre, 16 valve, DOHC, VTEC, in-line 4 cylinder
185 bhp at 8,200 rpm
redline - 8,400 rpm
peak torque - 16.3kgm at 6,500 rpm
Front Wheel Drive with
Helical Limited Slip Differential

No, it wasnt a white one which means it must have been a VTI badged up to a type-r, It was modded though so was probably chucking out a bit more than standard.

As I said above it pretty much kept up till about 100 then I pulled away convincingly.

He was 1 up me 2 up so he already had an advantage.
