Did anyone ever overcome the gearbox issues with fitting the Megane turbo 2.0 into the Clio? IIRC Fred had a little project on the go but he needed to cut the leg or something to make clearance for the gearbox?

That sounds like a project that would be worth it's weight in gold if it could be made to fit.

Knowsit. A relatively cheap 260bhp Clio conversion. IIRC there some quite serious problems though, and the 182 5-speed gearbox doesn't fit the engine either (again, IIRC)

Engine fits. 6-speed box... does not. At all.

You can't use the 1*2's JC5 'box on it either, since the bolt-spacings are different, amongst other things. You could, if you had the money, get a housing CNC'd with new correct fittings, but surely that's missing the point, as it's no longer a cheap "plug and play" conversion.

Pity, really.

The custom bellhousing has got to be worth a look. Somewhere like www.aframeengineering.co.uk might be able to help - especially if there was going to be a sizeable market. The only problem would be the availability of the engines, and they haven't really been about long enough to warrent the bellhousing manufacture have they?

I think the housing is only one of the problems TBH. Lack of width/space is the crunch.

i hav made a rep there is a canny but of work goes into making a rep fair enought its not a turbo but still a good mod i think
