just set up my broadband

As the title suggests, my 2mb connection has just come live, just run a speed test:

Downstream 1807 Kbps (225.9 KB/sec) 1951 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 235 Kbps (29.4 KB/sec) 253 Kbps (inc. overheads)

is that good for a 2mb connection?

being a BB virgin i have no idea!

Yep, nothing wrong with that.

Tweaking your RWIN/MTU might get you a few more kB/s but not much.

PS - Glad you got there in the end :)

MTU is adjusted in your Router settings and again in Windows. Rwin is adjusted in Windows only.

DR.TCP or TCP optimiser would do the trick.

For IPStream products, i.e < 8mb, it might get you 10kB/s more but that's about it.

how many megabytes are there in 1 gb?

Technically there's 125 megabytes (MB) in 1 gb (gigabit)

If you meant gigabyte (GB) then yes there's 1024MB.

(Didn't mean to come across as pedantic just wanted to show the differance between gb and GB incase you were confused)

Depends on the ISP actually, some ISP's still use 1000mb = 1GB therefore 10gb is 10,000mb. So perhaps something to clarify if ever your near your limit.

Wrong Griff, ISP's can and do still use 1000mb = 1Gb as its still perfectly legal and indeed following the international Si standard.

Think theres a mixture of both camps tbh.

All UK based ISP's follow IEC standards. Trust me I should know.

Actually let me edit that - "should" follow IEC standards but you are correct in saying that some may not.
