K&N 57i - Extra Insurance Premium

  Blue Clio
Hi,

Just bought a new K&N 57i Induction Kit, just before I call them to tell them I have fitted it, I was wondering how much it could put up my insurance premium if I was to claim it?
(Obviously every insurance company is different but what would you expect?)

Thanks

They will be more interested in the power increase than the product itself, its touch and go on this opinion wise. Some will say dont bother some will say thats stupid. tbh if it does effect your premium its not worth fitting. I would send it back and get a itg panel filter.

itg improves the sound yea, not as much as an induction kit but saves the hassle of telling insurance as its just a new filter isnt it .

On paper an induction kit will give a power increase so I wouldn't try telling them it doesnt as they might be in the know.

I have had induction kits on a lot of my cars and never bothered telling them about it (aswell as exhausts) but then again I have never crashed and needed to claim.

Ring them up and say you are thinking of adding a modification to your car and see what they say.

imo i would get a refund on the k&n and go with a filter if the premium would go up but its your money and you can do what you want with it :)

Yeah true.
I'll give them a ring to see how much extra it costs and try slipping in the fact it doesnt give a power increase, see what they say.

What do you think they could charge if they realise the kits are "supposed" to give an extra 5bhp?

no idea mate, they may not even charge you. All insurance companies are different and they change there policies all the time. Some companies wont insure a modded motor.

Just be as honest as possible, no point actually ringing to delcare the thing and voiding your insurance becuase you stated it was something its not. Tell them about the 5bhp and see what happens.......

Technically insurance should be cheaper with a K&N due to the fact the car actually looses power with one fitted ;)

Yes you should tell them you have it fitted

  Blue Clio
Haha thats what I thought mate!
What would you expect the premium to go up by, more than the value of the induction kit itself?

as I said bud, not a clue. You would have to speak to them to find that one out as no one will be able to tell u.

Give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

Depends who your with. Sure Direct Line used to be £45 per extra mod when i was with them years back.

Its your call at the end of the day fella ;)

wouldnt bother letting them no tbh not worth the hassle, what serious difference is it gonna make if have a crash or bump, if they come out and see you got a induction kit.....not pay out ( doubt it ) just stick the f00ker on

  Blue Clio
Yeah, I'll give them a ring to see how much it's gonna cost to put the kit on.
If its ridiculous money then I'll just have to put it on without declaring it, otherwise the extra £20 or so on insurance won't bother me.

If they spot any little thing they could use it against you in a claim. Insurance Co's try owt to get out of paying, worth telling them imo
