K-Tec 1.2 16v sports cat.

anyone had one of these?

what are they like? and noticable differences from standard? is it worth it?

cut a long story short took the car to renault and they have said the honey comb filter has colapsedso need a new cat.

renault quoted me £660 to get it replaced which included the part, fitting and diagnostics!!! i mean WTF.

so ive since then gone to kwik-fit and they have said £350 inc fitting for a normal one.

shall i get the sports cat for £10 more as i can fit it myself?

Sports cats sometimes have problems getting through MOTs so might be worth just gettin a standard one.

Iv heard all the backpressure stories too - still dont really know how removing a restriction would lose you power though

Who the hell told you that Timmsy? You won't loose power from a decat on any size engine! You may get a tiny, miniscule gain in torque or BHP, but nothing really amazing. I could be wrong, but it would seem illogical as to why you would loose power.

TBH I think they are a waste of money with the gain you will get on our engine. But still you won't loose power unless you get an exhaust like mine lol. If you get a decat and get a cat back exhaust you should be fine. Even if you don't get a cat back exhaust I doubt you will loose power.

im not getting a decat as i would still need to buy a cat for the MOT and i cant really afford both right now. well doesnt look like i will afford anything for ages.

im getting/got the sports cat from k-tec so wondering if anyone has any clear evidence of problems with them

ring specialist breakers and get a second hand one for way less than £100

you need your head checking for paying £350 for a sport cat for a 1.2 16v!

well the thing is ever since the days of owning a 205 i have never trusted second hand parts on french cars.

plus i need it done before friday as i have a very important interview and would rather not pay renault price either, not to keen on paying the same price for a patern part from kwik-fit either.

my 1.2 16v got a noticeable gain in power when i cut my cat open and smashed the internals out it then welded it back up!!

i ordered a k-tec sports cat when i blew my flexi pipe back in the day when i had money to blow, after waiting a couple of weeks phoned up n told them just to leave it because it was taking ages! as they make them to order and dont keep any in stock!
