K-Tec Cambelt Change?

Car  Megane R26 + 182
Just wondering if anybody on here had had there's done by them? Alot of people say its better to get Renault to do it as they need special equipment?

Thanks in advance James.

I got quoted £520 for a cambelt change from K-Tec, would go there over Renault but my local mechanic can do it for £50 cheaper so am gonig there to get it done!

Why go to these big place's to get camblet done, when any mechanic whose done a cambelt change before can do it cheaper ??

And thats why they end up fucked...

Its nothing like a 1.2 8v block... do the search

are you getting the pulleys/idlers etc changed also?

Is that part of the cambelt kit? It's all genuine Renault parts just cheaper labour. It will have the aux belt done too but will only have the "aux kit" (an extra £90 from Renault) done if it needs it

I'd rather save £50 and buy a gates kit over genuine than save £50 paying some local mechanic to do it.

the only issue is the room you got to do things in, theres isnt any! the rest is pretty straight forward.

Does you man have the special locking tools required? I doubt it at a cost of £200 for them....

DO NOT mess around with the cambelt service on the f4r, take it to a specialist such as Ktec, Fred, Birchdown, RSmurray etc etc. Its not a straightforward job.

For the sake of £50, a night out, vs a once every 3 yrs service.

1*2 cambelts arent exacly a tip-ex jobbie. Floating pulleys etc best to get it done by someone who's done a few, dont go by whos cheapest.

Are RSmurray the one's that are based in Leeds? If so that's the place mine was done.

He's a Volvo specialist but has the necessary tools (he did my 1.4 cambelt service) and one of the mechanics he has employed is Renault trained so it's not some cash in hand down a back alley job.

Mines off to Rentech on wednesday week.

Having the cambelt kit and aux belt.

Will let you know!

[/400 all inclusive non-genuine belt kit.
It's a bit more then i wanted to pay, but he is meant to be good..
do you think that is a lot?

£460 with genuine belt kitQUOTE]
Eh! i need to get mine done soon as well and i was quoted £500inc for cambelt and aux kits(gates) or £550inc genuine!

Ive seen a couple of lads at my garage do these and they are not an easy cambelt! you need a special timing kit.. as these have a floating crank :(

All done now.

Great job down and Rentech. Would advise 100%

They also fixed a few other things including new engine mount and refitted my exhaust. Still under £500... :-)

My mate/local garage will do them for around £200 plus the cost of the belt. He's done about 5-6 now.
