k-tech manifold?

  BMW Z4
Hi, i was on the k-tech website a couple of days ago and was looking at the manifolds, my friend has just replaced his on his civic gives off a good bit extra power and a louder rumble. I was wondering is it worth while doing anything to a 1.2 like that and does it give any gains. If anyone has done this i would love to know youre opinions and prices?

cheers greg,

it's a 1.2 the only thing you can do for a head turner is cosmetic m8 most you will get with every mod poss is 110-115bhp is not worth spending the money if you want power a 1.2 ent going to cut it at the street races or track days save the money and get something rapid for the weekend that you know will shoe 50% of the motors around or look for a 182 doner car

just my opinion

hope it works out for ya

  182
hi :)

not sure if changing the manifold is worthwhile to be honest - if the labour charges are anything like a 182 manifold going on a 172 it will hurt

you would gain more from losing the cat convertor

heya mate ... if u want more power im all for tuning the small engines but you need to be prepared to spend alot of money ,,, ones way for about £1200 is

twingo gt exhaust manifold + turbo
stainless braided oil feeds for turbo and returns
intercooler
piggy back fuel controller
etc etc

should give around 130bhp at 8 psi

otheriwse like what has been said get a bigger lump in there.. im currently working out a plan for a 2 litre 8 valve engine out of a laguna as theyr cheap as chips and with a few basic mods could get some decent power and torque

yeah sounds good i just really want a bigger output as 1.2 isnt much just insurance for my age is annoyingly rediculous! i was just testing the water on what i could do on a reasonable price to increase power?

I got a KTR remap for my 1.4, that was wothwhile. Not everyone with their big 2 litres understands that we can only afford small engines but still wanna modify lol

yep, everyone just says save up and throw a bigger engine in/get faster car

unfortunately theres very little you can do to smaller engines thats worthwhile

i'll just say that if you do go for a remap make it the last thing you do as to make the most of any other mods you may have :)

  MK 2 MR2 Turbo
I'm with everyone on this Board that will tell you to wait and buy a faster car. I started off with a Clio mk2 Ph2 1.2 2 years ago (late learner at 19)
I had that for a year got my one years no claims and bought an FTO with the money i saved from not buying pointless mod's . Albeit the FTO wasn't a supercar but it would be faster than most cars on the road i kept that for 6 months and then bought a Toyota MR2 Turbo which will hang with most things on the road.
The mod's you can spend on a 1.2 will add up
eg :-
exhaust 150- 300
Manifold 150-300
Remap 250-300
That alone could be a grand
With the prices of cars bottoming out it's better to save your money as 3-6k can buy some silly cars nowadays
Clio 172 -182
Civic Type R
Subaru Impreza's
Mitsubishi Evo's
Nissan Skylines
Toyota MR2's
Toyota GT4
Toyota Supra
All the above can be bought in that price range for example. a year isn't along time to wt and then you will actually have a car that people will respect and will actually turn heads as appose to having a 1.2 with a fart can that people only look at indisgust.

gains are proportional to the engine size. with that in mind, it's good advice just to buy a faster car. consider going older and faster, you will learn a lot if you are willing

1.8 16v clio MK1 can be insured from 18 or 19 at a push

Alternatively, consider the engine out of the above car for your car. It's 138bhp and will cost you £150 for a Mint one.
that's good £/bhp
