Keep or ditch 6x9’s

My system at the moment is as follows.............

Genesis Profile 4 amp running front JBL Components and rear JL Audio 6x9s

Rockford Amp running Infinity Sub

Now........ should i keep the 6x9s for rear fill or ditch them and get some components built in to the rear panels? Or just keep the front components?

IMO i think that a really good set of amped comps up front and a sub in the back sounds really good. Defo ditch the 6*9 though!

The 6x9 will be working against your sub so ditch them!

yup ditch, dont do the audio quality any good if u got a sub using the same air enclosure (your boot)

ok - 6x9s for sale or swap for parcel shelf without holes in black!!

use the profile 4 for the fronts only (either active (but u will need to buy an acitve xover) or passive just use 2 channels for each side) but be carefull with gains

then the rocky powering the sub and ditch the 6*9s the chances are they have already been damaged by the sub anyway

Oh B***ox im just setting up my sound system, and have got my sub amped in the back, and i just recieved replacment speakers today still to install, basically replacment door, dashboard and rear speakers.

Sounds good atm with the sub but should be a lot better with uprated speakers. Thing is ive got pioneer 6x9s on order aswell. Just thinking maybe its not such a good idea to have them.

U say having them in the same air as the sub buggers them up. What if i built small enclosures below the speaker on the mdf shelf im gonna be making for them?

My 6x9s have been totally cained by my sub! hence why it sounds better without em! I have amped the fronts and they sound pretty good!

Bargain as well!! £38 lol!!!

surely it would depend on the quality of the 6x9s though. I have some vibe 6x9s in my shelf amped with a profile 4, as well as the front componants, then i have a profile 1 amping a pioneer sub. My system sounds absolutely mental, it is so loud and clear (i dont have much base running through the 6x9s though as thats what the sub is for) and i couldnt be happier with it all. But if i was to remove my 6x9s then there is no way the sound would be as loud, unless i was to replace the standard rear speakers with uprated ones.

And having the 6x9s above the sub doesnt seem to be doing them any harm, how would it damage them?

get ur system sound tested and they will tell u it sounds sh*te

first thing i was told wen i got mine done and that was without 6x9s

it would damage the speakers by the force the subs are kicking out against the force of the 6x9s

wen the sub kicks out so does the 6x9 and if they are above the subs they will kick further becos of that extra upward force if u know wot i mean

I turned my sub off and played the 6x9s on there own - oh dear! I killed them!!! Never mind - they are out now and just running the front comps using my genesis profile 4 amp bridged (and with gan turned low lol!)

Hows this sound (no pun intended) make directional pods for 6x9s moulded into a custom parcel shelf. Doubt any pressure from my sub in the boot would be pressing against the 6x9s cones. This way the 6x9s could give loud mid and high pitch with the Sub giving the bass.

Might be a bit of work but should look good and hopefully sound good. Spose if it doesnt i can just throw my standard parcel shelf back in and sell the 6x9s, would be a shame cos they r pioneer and look pretty nice too.

If you built an enclosure for the 6x9s like a box around them that should be ok afaik, cause then you wouldnt have the sub pressure against the 6x9s...

But really ditch the 6x9s, stick with the sub and get comps it would sound so much better...
