My first time with a DSLR at an airshow, in a word...awesome. D50 coped brilliantly with some very hard auto-focus work.

its fairly tricky taking pics of planes at 600mph. Good job mate. Air shows are cracking events for photos.

How much cropping did you need to do or did the planes fill the shot?

Hardly any cropping for many of the shots, I actually had to wait until they were further away on many occasions as I was shooting with my prime (i.e. no zoom control), I missed many of the moments when they did their crowd line stuff because I was too close.

The hardest thing was framing them at a couple hundred miles per hour with a 420mm lens, got loads of shots where I just missed them.

This is a shot raw from the camera, absolutely untouched but sadly destined for the recycle bin...

And if anyone thinks 6mp simply isn't enough these days, that red writing near the red dotted line says "Danger Hot" clearly on the full res printed image.
