Key fob playing up!!!!

Friday night I went to lock my car and it wouldnt lock.. The red light on the flob flashes but nothing happens.
Replaced the battery and still nothing. Even the spare key isnt working either..
Anyone else had this before??? Not sure if the key may need to be reprogramed.. Sure Renault will charge god knows what to do this!!!

try this;

hold the button in on the key fob when turning on the ignition, but not the engine (all lights light up etc)

then take it out and try to lock it again.

This can happen if an ambulance has driven past as the car can change it's frequency, and is therefore not "synced" with the fob. I used to get this years ago with our Vauxhall's at work on a busy stretch of road. With them there was a simple procedure to sort it. Mark may have the answer there, but if not Renault will definitely have it, if you can find a dealer in the know!

it worked for me when i lost sync in the past. Although mine is a mk2ph2 1.2, i believe all mk2 ph2's including sports have the same radio keyfob set up.

there's a very simple process on here somewhere on how to resync the key, something like hold the lock button on the dash for 5 secs then the immobiliser light stays on then press the key fob then the car unlocks and locks again to show its synced, might not be the right process though, best do a search

it could also be a loose connection which is why i think mine is playing up at the mo or possibly a UCH problem, but you dont want that as its around the £300 mark to get a new one fitted and recoded etc.

Just been to Renault.... The "very helpful" man on the service desk said it sounds like a problem with the key not the car. I said the spare wasnt working either. To have the key reprogrammed would be £46.85 including vat. If this didnt work then a new key would be £85.00 the plus £46.85 to have it reprogrammed..

What both keys? Sounds like a typical Renault dealer reply....

I own a Seat which had the same problem whereby the key blinked but nothing else. Tried many different procedures and dealer didnt do anything just said its your key and you need a new one @ £150. After laughing and walking out I brought a new central locking kit and fitted that. Sorry I cant be much help but for the sake of a £150 the kit cost £20 and a day of fiddling
