Do the ebooks have to be bought from amazon? or can they be got else were?

You can put pdf's etc on there, but the Kindle store is awesome so why would you get books from anywhere else? Unless you were a pierat, or something

Can you use it as a full on document viewer, i.e office suite docs? The missus has just started a midwifery degree, and if I was able to upload all her course notes to it for viewing it would be good...

Other documents im unsure of.

Definitely PDF's, don't think you can do word docs etc, but can't be 100% sure.

Audible: Audible (.AA, .AAX)
Music: MP3 (.MP3)

Things the Kindle can open ^

Convert all your Word docs to PDF and it should be fine with that
