Knock knock....

Nope, not a crap joke.
Driving to work yesterday, queuing on motorway and as I slowed down heard what I can only describe as a ryrhmic knocking, sped up as speed increases and appeared to stop beyond maybe 30. Did it again on way home.
Nothing falling off that I can see, suspension all new maybe 2k miles ago, thought it might have been rust buildup on discs initially but nope.
Any ideas? Car drives fine otherwise.

CV joint, driveshaft or wheel bearing would all be candidates, best jack it up and rotate each wheel in turn, see if you can work out which wheel and feel for play etc - or just sling it at a garage ;)

Offside rear wheel spins freely, near side barely - I almost pulled it off the trolley jack. So I'm guessing either caliper or bearing?

Sounds likely, my money would be on caliper, if the bearing is that far gone that the wheel will hardly move it would usually be howling like an absolute banshee.

My missus once complained to me that her old Clio Billabong was making a funny noise, took it out for a test drive and it was fine at first then very quickly you'd have sworn there was an un-silenced trails bike tailgating you, wheel still turned fairly freely even in that state although it felt really gritty.

So new caliper or fix? There's no noise when moving beyond the knocking and the car will sit at the top of my sloped drive without the handbrake on and not move.

Take the calliper off wind it all the way in and out (break pedal) a few times. Cleaning up the piston behind the boot if required and then refit and bleed

I had this before and the above sorted it out.

Thanks mate. Will look for a caliper removal guide; it doesn't sound beyond my ability other than cleaning up the piston.
Handbrake feels fine from inside the car but the pad is on the disc on the near side so I expect it isn't vey happy.

No guide needed mate it's literally 2 bolts. 13mm for the bolt I believe and a 17mm spanner will be needed to hold the other bit from spinning.
