Knocking from steering

I've just noticed a knocking coming from my steering when stationary. If I 'wiggle' the wheel left and right a little bit I can hear something deep in the bowels of the engine going knock knock knock. As if there is a bit of play in the steering or suspension or something? I fitted my Sportlines today and can't say I have noticed it before (doesn't mean it wasn't there though, I dont make a habit of sitting in my car wiggling the wheel )

I know about the full lock top mount knock (I have that too ). This is different. It sounds like its coming from under the engine or somewhere.

Could be one of several places - joints in the column, the rack, the inner track rod ball joint, rod end ball joint, or lower arm ball joint. none of which should have been removed so probability is it was like that before.

Mine makes a little knock both directions if I give the wheel a propper shove, most cars I've had have made similar noises as well. You have to expect a little play, what is excessive is hard to judge really.

Edit - also the way the rack is mounted to the subframe.... lots of things to get worried about, but I wouldn't!!
