Knocking noise which ain’t driveshafts!



  Mrs' valver! &myV6 veccy


Had this knocking noise since i got the car. The car would turn on both full locks with no knocking what-so-ever. It only made a noise when i a)went over bumps, and b)moved the steering wheel left and right only SLIGHTLY.

Was quite a nasty clunk, and i could feel it through the wheel. So i automatically assumed it was probably the driveshafts.

However, the engines recently come out, so no shafts in it now. Went to move the car, and noticed it still made the same clunk when i wiggled the steering wheel left and right slightly.

Does anyone know what this is please? Bear in mind the cars in bits so would be easier to do now.

Bearings are fine.

Are either of the other 2 expensive parts wise?

I suppose i could easily fit either one, as the ENTIRE dash is out at the moment!

Well thought the bearings where fine anyway! Will have to check them suppose.

You on about the top of the suspension?

The car doesnt even have to be moving. I can just wiggle the steering wheel slightly, and clunk clunk. Not a massive clunk exactly, but very noticeable.
 


Bottom ball joints, top mounts, maybe as simple as a losse top nut on the shock tower, rod ends, worn bushes, rack mounts......get somebody to wiggle it and you look for the noise.

Now you mention it, im thinking it feels like its coming from right by me, i.e. summut to do with the rack.

Dude, i same kinda problem!??>>>

there is a bolt between the mainifold and engine mount! mine was knocking causing horrible noise when i went over bumps or turned right... id get that check out ... the guys that fixed my car didnt carge me coz it onlt took a few mins to tighten bolt..

well the wheel nuts are tight, coz the wheels have been off umpteen times lately!

and it aint gonna be anything to do with the engine, coz the engines completely out at the moment!

poss excessive play in:-

1,track arm

2,track rod end

3,lower ball joint

poss worn or damaged:-

1,shocker tops or the bearings

2,outer anti roll bar bushes
