knocking noise!

Oh joys,
a knocking noise! were my thoughts on the way to college thismorning!
ill describe the knock!!

it seems to come and go, it doesnt sound like an engine knock, and you can kind of feel it through the pedal!

it does it over sharp bumps, single knock or maybe two knocks,
but it also does it when you let off the power!! (straight away)

go home, and noticed that its really bad when reversing!! so i was reversing back and forth with the bonnet open to see if i could hear anything, didnt seem any louder with the bonnet and windows open!! was clunking rolling down the road (quite bumpy) and clunking on pulling away in reverse!

i finally found that if you rev her (parked) very slightly, it does about 5 knocks in quick sucession(SP) as it returns to idle,

and i hope this makes sence, but i was leaning over, 1 hand on the windscreen, and other on the throttle body giving it a little rev, and you could feel the knocks a lot more through the windscreen than the engine! (though it was obv vibrating on its own so that might be irrelevant)

any ideas??

i dont think its engine as it does it coasting over bumps,
i dont think its suspension because it does it while parked,
and i dont think its gearbox as it does it while parked!!

the only thing i can think of is exhaust is hitting somewhere down the line???

any suggestions?​

I would suggest it's either gearbox or engine mounts.....

I'd be going with engine mounts as well. If it were coming from the exhaust knocking, you'd hear it a lot more underneath the car, and it'd be very obvious.

or actually the gearbox??

well ive got next week off, and i should be doing some work underneigh the car, so ill have a look!
lower gearbox mount is powerflex so it should be that,

i did need to change the engine mounts at somepoint anways

Anyone know how to check the gearbox mount under the battery?

Mine has a knock every now and then and has developed a rattle at about 5k sounds like a bolt is loose apparently common on clios.

I had something similar when I first bought mine. It turned out to be the drag links which are the lower engine mounts, cheap to fix.

well its got a hillpower polyeurothaine (sp) dogbone mount, this is the only lower engine mount on the car i think :S

and ive just ordered an uprated engine mount from ktec as the one in there does seem to give a lot of movement,

hopefully this will fix it!

Yeah, maybe I'm wrong about the drag links but these were what was knocking on mine..

I replaced my dogbone mount also, but this was because the gear stick was all over the place when accelerating/slowing down.

I dont know otherwise mate!

when i got home it was actually doing it on just idle!
but it seemed to stop.

noise came on monday,
i did change some of the exhaust bolts on sunday,
could this have done it?? im going to get it on stands tomorrow, and wedge the trottlebody to stay at 1.5k and see if i can see anything knocking

also have an uprated engine mount on the way,
hopefully it will make some difference!

please help!
i just want it to stop!!
