knocking under acceleration and crunchy 3rd :(

Car  phase 2 172
Hi everyone i have a ph2 172 2002. When accelerating hard i get a knocking noise :( well banging noise. I also noticed 3rd/4th has a little crunch to it sometimes. Could the problems be related?

thanks

Have you stolen my car? ;)

Doubtful related, I'd guess it needs synchros & a CV joint, I think that's what mine needs. Might be exhaust banging though.

I had this about 6 weeks ago. Ended up the gearbox mount bolt had sheared in half.

Took about an hour to fit and is silky smooth now

Rory have you got part number for the mount you replaced? from searching forums i have been reading about dog bone and gear box top mount... I have not noticed the gear stick shaking about...

Thanks
Jon

I think be gearbox mount, is there any guides? and wheres best place for part? i want cheapest possible, as the car is going anyway :)

Best off getting the battery tray out and taking a look at the mount. In my case the mount was fine but the bolt had sheared, think it was 8quid for the new part THINK!

I have an invoice at home for the part so I'll check. Genuine Renault job for the bolt but only takes about 30-60mins to fit in total.

Don't drive it they way it is by the way.

Not sure that'll Inc the bolt. It'll probably just the the rubber and at £18 that's SILLY cheap

Also before ordering and buying bits you need to know exactly ways wrong with it. Takes 15 mins to see if it's that mount so worth checking out before hand

Yea ill take it off tomorrow :) I didnt know you could defnitely see if they are broke before replacing them.... Thanks for all help :) ill post tomorrow if i can see anything wrong with the mount.

Just looked at gearbox mount and it looks fine... Now its a case of finding the dogbone mount?? where is dogbone located? and is it easy to fit?

Thanks

Look under car for twisted metal mount with a rubber bush each end. It's at the bottom of the engine.

Hardest bit is getting the old bushes out.

It'll be a straight/inline mount on your phase 1, it's large at one end, and located on the gearbox I think.

dog bone mount,

put the hand brake on and rev it as if to maneuver if you hear it clanging it's gone

Get a polybush one :) (it's directly behind the gearbox)
