ktec 4pot brake kit.. drilled or grooved

im considering a brake upgrade after the discrete exhaust.. my question is.. could i just get new pads and discs for my standard MKII172 setup? or is it better to get the whole kit? if i go with ktec do i get the grooved or drilled? im worried that drilled can crack around the holes and put me/others in danger? are there better options.. what happend to the brembo kit avaliable for 172 on their website? does anyone have other suggestions than just going for ktec everytime or is this kit good. thanks all + sorry for the boring post :)

just change the pads if you really want to do something useful. K-tec have pagids for about £115 or you can get ferodo DS2500 or equivalent.

doubt they would crack, a lot of development goes into them, and porsche uses drilled!! I thought grooved were better though as they skimmed a tiny amount of the break pad each time to keep the maximum pad area in contact with the disc

You can get cheapo casting which gives the neg feedback about drilled discs. You really would need high temps to start cracking but obviously drilling in holes makes it weaker. The Clio isnt a heavyweight though so id say it would be pretty much impossible to crack the discs. Generally drilled for fast road and grooved for track, however you wouldnt be able to tell the diff.

I have experience brake fade in a 172 on track, i would say get 4 pots if you can afford them.

Porsche used discs with cast holes, most after market are drilled holes, leading to stress risers.

My personal preference would be..

grooves disks (standard size)

4 pots

pagid pads

not a fan of drilled as they clog and like Ben says lead to risers if your giving them some abuse... (dont we all)

what are 4 pots + is there a 4pot kit you can recommend? with grooved.. will the kitc ome with pads if so.. can you specify the pagid ones instead?

4 pot reffers to the number of cylinders inside the caliper acting upon the pad or pads.

std is single piston ,sliding caliper.

4 pots have 2 pistons on either side of teh disc.
