KTEC Stealth Exhaust Help...

David - Thanks for the advice, i'll loosen everything off this weekend and see if I can twist it about - if I post some pictures up you might be able to tell me if mines on right or wrong - I'm 90% sure it's wrong cos it sits really low and nocks over every bump :(

No worries, its a shame you're so far away as we would be happy to get it fitted correctly for you.

David.

I fitted mine perfect on axel stands, little ghetto bodge on the mounts, but they where fecked. All nice and hidden and no knocks. Sounds good to!!

That's jacked up, touching the base of the car. Words fail me.

Mines the same on my PH1. I can't see how it can go any higher as like you said its touching the heat-shield. Has anyone got a pictured of one installed higher on a PH1?

Mine is now looking like it did again when I first had it fitted and is knocking like f***!! My options are now as follows;

1) Try and adjust the exhaust myself squeezed under the car on my back as I don't have no stands, which will probably fail as I'm s**t!

2) Get another garage to try and adjust the exhaust, which will probably fail and cost me more money!

3) Buy a different exhaust and flog the stealth...cost of swapping/fitting new exhaust plus obviously can't sell the stealth for what I paid!

4) Drive just over 200 miles to Ktec and take you up on your offer David of adjusting the exhaust system for free as you stated previously in this thread...this would be fine if I actually needed something else doing to the car like a service or something but I don't!

Out of the four options above 4 seems the option that will possibly cost less in the long run and actually get results! Problem is explaining to the wife that I'm driving over 200 miles to have my exhaust that she moans about adjusted for 20 minutes and then just driving home again :S

I got mine fitted at a local exhaust specialists, not had any bangs, rattles or anything. They didn't mention it being a difficult exhaust to fit or anything when I picked the car up. Here's some pics, as I think this is how it should look fitted properly . . . .

I've had the misfortune of two of these. Both lasted a fortnight. Horrid boomy sounding & crap fitting. Why bother lol

i think mine is low after reading this thread so ill be adjusting it this week :S it does knock until it gets hot then it bangs on something every time it hits frogtec (as i like to call it :p) between 5 and 6k

I undid the bolt on the backbox bracket, pushed it up and retightened. No nocking and you can't see it at all from behind. Took less than 5 mins lol

The exhaust is soooo well built!

Update....

Was going to actually give it ago myself at adjusting the exhaust but when I went to loosen the centre exhaust band I noticed that the brand new centre mount that I had fitted at the same time as the exhaust has snapped on one side...probably explains alot! That's less than 200 miles it managed to do! After noticing this couldn't be bothered to try anything myself as this whole affair has left me kind of gutted!

Yes my twin pipe Janspeed did look kind of gash but I had no trouble with it what so ever in over 20k with it being held on by original mounts that had done over 57k! Since buying the Ktec it's been s**t and has left me with a car that knocks like a shed and a feeling that the exhaust might fall off....

:(

Ktec I need to come see you I'm thinking to see what you can do for me....hopefully my exhaust won't fall off on the 200+ mile trip down!

From my post on Page#1:

Surround your middle exhaust mount with 2 cable ties around the entire block. This will prevent it getting stretched and warping later. "Pack" your rear exhaust mount by securing something in place under the "X" to stop it also sagging. A spare socket or a peice of pipe cabled tied in is a favorite method.

Do this to prevent having all this trouble 6 months down the line when they stretch and distort. Middle mount is very weak as its just rubber and struggles with the extra weight :)

I don't think you can buy one for that backbox bizarre mount - but the middle mount is just a standard oval mount - just measure it and buy one off ebay or tweeks

My middle mount has sagged loads - as I think the KTR exhaust is quite heavy - I'm gonna cut it off at some point and replace it with a motorsport one

Have you tried Treadfirst in Diss?

They fitted my K-Tec Stealth a couple of years ago without any problems and it's been fine since. A good bunch of guys in there so maybe worth a try?

Alternatively try Cit-Ren, who seem to be fairly well thought of?

Both are a lot closer than K-Tec.

It was funny cos the day after I put pics up on here 'bragging' how well fitted mine was . . . I got in, started the car up and there was an awful racket! I stopped the engine and looked under the car and right underneath paralell to my driverside door the pipes had come apart

Luckily the garage I had it fitted at was only 2 mins down the road, so I took a slow drive down there. The mechanic sed it was strange cos it seemed like such a good fit and it had been clamped on. So they sorted it, DOUBLE clamped it and sed if it happens again they'd have to take it up the road to a steel place and have it welded

Hmm, just looking at purchasing one of these super stealth's (like the OEM look) but im actually abit concerned about the fitment now tbh..

Don't be - there's a big difference between a poorly designed system and people who just don't know how to fit it properly :)

It's a very well made system, with a lovely noise and nice power delivery
Just make sure whoever fits it pays a bit of attention to the finish

Tbh, I've had two of these systems on two 172's...

Ktec have fitted both and I've never had a problem with them!

The sound is pretty good tbh, mines unsilenced with unsilenced de-cat....rasssp!!! Just very boomy on the motorway (kinda expected that)

Whats the score with BTBthough, on there website i could only find prices around the 1600 mark!?

Right im trying to do mine at the minute.

JAck it up and get the backbox straight...tighten the band around the backbos and let jack go...all is fine...then I touch the backbox and it sags to the righthand side. WTF!. Bloody bullshit.

Give up mate or drive over 200 miles to KTEC to let them sort it out like I am ;)
