KTR ITB's

Need a new ecu to do it properly as iirc as there are sensors that the standard ecu and loom cant accomodate.

  RenaultSport 172
Not with the gen90 its plug and play IIRC. Although with a Omex or ECU1 you'll have to chop up the loom. Russ on here did an ITB conversion using the standard ECU but I've no idea how he done it. Probably worth PM'ing him.

No you wouldnt be able to do it. youd have to try and make a sensor read things it wasnt designed for. Russ on here did it but it was always at a compromise.

Again iirc its something to do with the MAP sensor, as throttle bodies dont use it. Look for omex 600 possibly second hand if yor looking at doing it on a budget.

If i was trying to save money id buy a used ITB set up instead of trying to skimp on an ecu.

A better bet would be to go to Matt @ TDF for the full kit and setup :) £2700 iirc

I wasn't trying to skimp lol, been looking at Omex as well. Would the Gen90 need to be mapped? Or is it as simple as plugging it in and going? If it does, then I might be better off getting the Omex...

Oh i didnt mean it in an offensive way i just thought thats why you were thinking about mappingthe standard ecu, to keep down costs.

Omex requires a second loom and cutting/splicing, Gen90 is plug and play and not too sure on the ECU1.

And yes that price is fitted and mapped at Tour de Force.

My brother is running the ktr throttle bodies and gen90 ecu, we fitted the bodies and they went straight on without causing much trouble, the ecu is a plug and play system on a phase 2 172 but not on a phase 1 172, theres 20+ pins needing to be changed, besides that its straight forward. They come with a map on them but i would still get a custom map to get the best from them, dnt want it to be over fueling etc etc,

Just had a look, it does look pretty nice. However, the KTR kit is £2300. Now I know how to handle a spanner, how difficult is it going to be to fit such a kit? Am I really better off paying the extra £400?

Ye get the kit if you can splice the ECU's together and map it :) I would pay the money!

But the KTR kit is a plug n play. So I would be saving the £400 on labour etc?

Would you really want a 'plug and play' map on a set of ITB's you just paid 2.3k for? I wouldn't! You're more likely to get better gains from Matt with a custom map to suit your engine, you must know how inconstant some F4r's are.

You would then need the KTR kit mapping too though, making the price difference negligible. :)

Although they can supply a generic map on the gen90, custom mapping would be so much better!

The TDF kit is very impressive. It would be my choice of 'bodies, easily.

They always need mapping, that ktr comes with a map to get you to the mapping place you choose, its not to run on permanently.

Thats how i see it anyway.

It's a great kit when setup correctly. You need to understand how to balance throttle bodies, and setup their idle, there's been a couple of instances of people being fairly innept with this and blaming the kit which you'll probably be told about by bitchy PM. You're also just up the road from me IIRC, so I'm a dealer for that kit and can do a fitted price, or even help you do a setup after fitting if you want to do it yourself

:)

its easy mate, if your ok using various different tools you will be fine.

Here is a pic of the ktr bodies when we received them

Also with all kits is there not the drilling and tapping of an oil sensor into one of the housing?

Off topic, talking about balancing bodies, do carbs need to be balanced too danny?

no drilling anything if you use the Gen90, all original sensors except TPS which comes with a direct plug in adaptor loom.

Yes, carbs are the same thing as throttle bodies, just much older technology, so no electonic fuel control

and to get in before the children kick off, there's a brand new filter solution with these now, bolted back plate and made to fit filter.

Can this be used with aircon & slampanel still in place do you know?

Also does the Gen90 still light up your dashboard like a xmas tree? :D

thats the intention of it I believe. They were due in the first production items on friday, not had one in my hands yet though.

Any aftermarket ECU will put warning lights on, but I believe the CAN code is now fully functional rather than the poor attempt that was made by the first CAN "expert" who thought he was clever and did barely enough to turn out the lights. Actually it's a customer of mine, and ktec's who owns a cup and works for an F1 electronics supplier thats done the job properly. :)
