KTR CLIO 172 SPORTS CATALITIC CONVERTER
We are currently testing our new sports catalitic converter on our Mk2 172. It is a direct replacement for the standard restrictive catalitic converter and power gains of 6-8 bhp are expected. It will also pass all MOT emission tests so there will be need to change the cat back to the standard one at MOT time. It works with the twin lambda set up on the Mk2 172 and Cup and there will also be a version available for the Mk1 172. Price is exoected to be £250-£300 and they will be available from early July.

yes that should be interesting. Massive gains are available by removing the entire exhaust system and replacing with large bore, no cat, no silencer, and a simplistic backbox (problem is you cause ear bleeding within a 2 mile radius)

Id be interested to know what that sports cat does, although its expensive for an extra 2-3 bhp

not me, Im not aware of a company thats developed a proper decat for a mk2/cup. Theer was a recent thread (month old prob) from somebody whos just done that on a 172, from memory the title read something like "no deact, bol**cks". Have a search for that

This is NOT a de-cat though... its a hi-flow performance cat, so legal

Does it look like the standard one? i.e at a service they wont be able to tell etc

I have had my car from new...

My exhaust was blowing either side of the cat so I took the car to the Ren garage. They informed me that I had a "sports high performance cat" which they thought I fitted. I hadnt. They fixed it (for a while, now blowing again), however said that if I had fitted the cat then my warranty was void.

After leaving the garage I thyought that they didnt know what they were talking about.

Is there such a thing as a spots cat, do the cup racers use one? If so, how did one get fitted to my car?

I have my first service coming up in a few weeks, Im going to a proper ren garage, will see what they say!!

Any ideas?

wow ktec might actually do somethign worth while.

A sports cat is basically a catalytic convertor with a lower cell count.

It also has decent inlet and outlet tapers to inccur less flow turbulence.

Benifits over a normal garden variety cat are increased flow through it whilst retaining emmisions compliance.

Just spoke to K-Tec, it will be now be available by the end of August but still no confirmation on the exact price.
