Lambda sensor size? Pre cat - post cat

  182
Evening all,

Can anyone confirm what the correct sizes are?

There are 2 available, either 480mm or 690 mm. Which is pre cat, and which is post cat (the one that plugs into the cat/de-cat)

Thanks

I have one here , post cat sensor, the original one taken out of the cat . I just measured it , and It's 480mm . I always thought the pre- cat sensor was the shorter one . Although they are both the same sensor, just that one is longer than the other.

Wonder if it has ever been changed?

I know they are the same, just cant remember which way round they are and dont want to order the wrong one.

Any ideas how easy the pre cat is to be changed on a driveway? Is it possible to do without a ramp.

Just measured my old pre cat sensor off a 182 and its 480mm

Edit.. I changed mine yesterday pal and its a piece of piss, I just jacked up the passenger side and was able to access it easily.

Cheers mate. Where abouts is the sensor ? Is it passenger side?

I have just ordered a fault code reader so if i change the sensor i will be able to then clear the fault and get rid of the light on the dash.

I got my lambda senors from europarts , bosh ones. I bought 2, they are 480mm.... I have to fit a brake senor..maybe clear the fault, what reader did you buy?

Yes i heard to only ever use the bosch ones.

Its just a cheap thing from ebay but has a year warranty and says it can read and erase engine faults so thought i would give it a go.

You need to remove any wheels . That OBDII will remove the engine light fault once you've fitted your new lambda sensor.

Im going to use it to turn the loght off before changin the sensor and then see if it brings the light back on. Just out of curiosity.

Then i will put a new sensor on and erase the fault again after that.

Ooops , I meant you Don't need to remove your wheels . Yeah , turn off the light before and see if it throws up a fault code again out of curiosity.

The fault reader arrived today so i have had a go. It brought 2 fault codes up, both Lambda although im not sure which is which ...

I have erased the faults and the light has gone off.

I will see if it comes back on before i change the lambda sensor.

Nice one . Well at least you've now tracked down which sensor threw up the fault code . Are you getting bad fuel economy ?

Around 30mpg so I think both sensors could do with being replaced.
Its good to know I can change them myself now and be able to nock the light off without having to go to a garage.

The part number difference probably just refers to the length, i have around 10 sensors here and just looked at them all and they all about the length. The one with the shorter length wiring still fits and plugs in fine.
