Lambo Aventador vs 911 GT2 RS Vs SLS

  330i. E30 Touring.
Rumour has it that there's some pretty impressive competition approaching from a couple of manufacturers for the Aventador...

Lambo is incredibly fast no doubt!!

But for me, i would buy the carth the proper gearbox and 3 pedals. GT2 RS FTMFW.

& lol at the British super car employee suggesting that something mad might be in the works ... ;)

Seriously fast but then it should be. I'd like to see some in-gear or rolling times. Most of the advantage in that video is a result of the 4WD launch. As per Sam's reaction, I was actually expecting it to destroy the opposition. I knew what would happen, and I knew the other two would never catch up. Doesn't take anything away from the car mind you.

As an automotive engineer (yes, i'm using my degree here), my first impression is that the Lambo demonstrates the basic principals a lot better.
- Engine in the right place, better load transfer
- All wheel drive, better tractive effort
- Pushrod suspension (used in F1 for years), greatly reducing unsprung mass, which is the key measurable when it comes to pure grip.

Ill give you the fact the engine is in the correct place but thats where it ends. All you have to do is spend 5 minutes with a Porsche GT* variant and as an automotive engineer you will clearly appreciate the higher quality of engineering in the Porsche.

The engine in the Lambo produces more power and torque but in 5 years time the Porsche's engine will still be working, and producing book power ;)

Where do you study and what year you in?

I've got a 1st Class Hons in Automotive Engineering with Motorsport from University of Hertfordshire and now work for Jaguar Land Rover.

...and you can't deny the unsprung mass, it's pure fact. Read up on it.

Whilst this is true its only one factor in 1000s that make up a car. I'm sure you'll have done formula student so will know how all the design decisions have to work together. (I also have an automotive engineering degree and am a production engineer at Toyota)

Im studying Automotive Engineering ;)

I know push-rods mean less unsprung mass as a general rule we have it on our racing car. Just because a car has push-rods doesn't make it a better overall piece of design though ;)

Perhaps, but this is not a Murci or a Diablo we are talking about. Some incredible strides have been made getting this thing reliable.

Im not an experienced lambo owner, but havent they sorted reliability out since they were sold to the germans??
Evo's old murci is still going strong after well over 100,000 miles of being hammmered round a track all its life! Yes its had about 5 clutches and various other wee repairs but u'd almost expect that with a 200bhp clio never mind a 200k car

Murcis are still dinosaurs

On its 2nd or 3rd gearbox, and the engine has been out of it many times, so yeah positively reliable.

2nd gear box for a near 600 brake engine putting power down to 4 gigantic tyres constantly on WOT and prob 130-140k
Is pretty reliable yes.
Only now i think is the engine needing a major rebuild.
Cant see porsches being million times better tbh ... Just look at the modern boxster engine..

I dont get why everyone faps themselves silly over Porsche reliability. There are some pretty serious issues with modern porsches and a lot of everyday stupid design issues with their cars.
