Laptop fucked?

My laptop's screen has gone knackered today ...the screen has lost almost all of it's brightness (I can only just see to type this lol) Am I right in thinking it's fecked and will need a new laptop?

Or are these screens economical to get fixed?

My laptop screen died and I could only see it by torch light, it turned out to be a part that costs about £30 so im getting it repaired, worth trying to find someone who can check it out for you?

lol wasnt supposed to be sarcastic... but it is the most simplest of things, and one of the easiest to do by mistake...

This is the type of thing you get ripped off on:

If u take it into pc world, and you say that your screen is broke... they will find out in the first 2minutes that it is the brightness... they will rip you off, with parts and labour, as it is no skin off their nose, and the customer is none the wiser... 'umm sir we found the problem it was the thingmajig that connects to the thingymajig, thats 100notes please'...

maybe get a mate to look at it?
