Laptop - painfully slow :-(

Morning all,
Booted up the girlfriends laptop this morning to find that it took 5 minutes to get into vista, and upon me trying to get into control pannel it took 10 minutes and then crashed. Never had this problem before, any advice on what might be wrong?

The p**n has gone :-(
I booted up in safe mode and the speed was fine so ran a disk check and anti-virus but it didnt come up with anything, Re-started pc and it came back up to speed.

Decided to delete alot of movies etc but i dont think they were creating a problem, my mind boggles!

Having a large number of movies on your pc won't really affect boot-up time unless you don't quite have enough hard memory to run vista properly so it's relying on virtual memory (hard-drive space). This will be even slower or not even possible if you have very little free space on your hard-disk.

you need ram
