Laptop Repair

  Turbos.
Made a boo-boo at the weekend. Went to put my laptop away, tripped up on the power lead which flung the laptop onto the floor...

It actually seems to have survived the fall fine, but now the battery won't charge. My hunch is that it's a bad connection, where the cable was pulled, rather than the battery. It's a Dell however, and there are known issues with batteries/motherboards.

What i want to know is, if i give it to a repairer, will i just get ripped off? The laptop is old and crap, but it has all my iTunes and pictures on...only which a part of is backed up

You should just be able to take the hard drive out and put it in an external caddy, if that's all you're worried about mate

Oops just noticed its a Dell. Which model? Dells are funny feckers with chargers as it is. Does it run off power supply without battery in?

You mean, if i literally remove the battery? Not tried...

No idea what an external caddy is?? But yeah, all i care about is the data within, opposed to the latop itself as i'm getting a new 'un.

Caddy is something you put your hard drive in and then connect it via USB so it's like a bigass memory stick. Get all our data off that way mate. You'd need a sata caddy more than likely. NOT IDE or Sata-E jut plain old sata. About £10
