leaking 2004 182!

  Ford Fiesta

After reading the post on here the other day about another 182 leaking. And after driving in lots of water I lifted the passenger side rear seat to find a puddle of water!!!!

Dried it and cleaning car with jetwash aimed under rear arch and the puddle came back. At first I thought it was one of the silver square things under the seat (what are they by the way!!?)

but it looks to be coming further back on the passenger side.

I know its a common thing on the renaultsport clios and has been for some years.

Someone who knows where to add a little sealant please reply. I dont want knackered rear seats.

thank you in advance.

oh you do hip_spasm... lol

do what I did after lots of water raise your rear seat....

How do your raise the rear seat?

Sorry if thats a dumb question, I have only been in the boot once or twice and have never moved the front seats forward in all the time I have had the car!

Yer tell us how to raise it and ill go check mine, mind you im not too worried about a bit of water, they can fix it in 2007 just before the warranty expires :p

Put your hand between the base and seatback, curling your hand underneath the seatbase pull it up/towards you and it hinges on the two metal brakets you can see where the front of the seatbase meets the carpet in the rear footwells. You should be able to see if there is any water collecting from peering behind it. Mine hasnt, i know this becasue ive taken the rear seats and parcel shelf totally out of mine lol.

Loony both mine and TonyRS182 has water there, his is 1 day old.

You need to check just after driving in very wet weather.

Come on peeps, who knows which bit of the car to seal for this, it has been a common problem since MK1 172 days, but I cant search on this forum anymore.

Why should you have to do the sealing?? And potentially invalidate your warrenty. Get the car booked in.

I had to get the whole rear window taken out and reset to fix the leak i had.

well mine seems to be bone dry and ive been up and down the motorway in pissing rain a few times while the seats have been out. maybe they got mine right, my 172 was fine too.

I shouldnt but I would prefer to put a little sealent on myself if it is easy t do rather than let them do it. Just thought if a few had done it themselves on here then they could point me in the right direction. Sure I recall it been near the rear light units somewhere that needs extra sealent.

i want to know too last time i posted this it turned into a british legion meet !

wheres the water coming from its not coming from the windows cos ive presure washed round them loads it seems to be coming from under the car some where because i drove to work and it was dry hit a big puddle and checkit when i got there and there was water under there

and not been big headed i reckon i could do a better job of sealing it my self

than the 17 year old so called technician with his NVQ 1 :)

you want to get a mate to help you and remove the rear seats and bootfloor mat, then one of you sits inside while the other blasts the hell out of the car from all angles with a jetwash lance. This is all they will do at the dealers to find the source of the leak.

I was thinking of doing that when the weather warms up my mates got the same problem with his 172 we were gonna do both at the same time i think

its really straight forward tbh the seats come out really easily as does the boot mat/carpet youll more than likely find its a body grommet missing or not pushed into place properly.

^^

Best to take the rear seats out, and get a friend to spray a jet-wash under the car while you take a look.

Check those bolts you've done-up aren't still leaking. There are similar bolts holding the seatbelt clips in place, check those too.

Check the seal is OK at the rear suspension turrets. Sometimes they can leak.

Your rear windows can leak too, if the seal isn't right.

Finally, check where your spare-wheel well joins to the rest of the floorplan. A poor seal there can leak too.

this was easy to sort. Simply fill the small holes under the arches with sealant. Never saw any water again!
