Leaky sunroof!!

just popped out for ten mins in my williams and for the second time in a week i got wetter driving then i would if i had walked!

My old 16v would leak a bit in heavy rain but my new williams 3 with electric dunroof its collects in the plastic fitting for the sunroof swiches and interior light then and will slowly drip until you go round a corner and it drenches me!

i havnt chekced for leaves in the gutters yet but failing that whats else could it be? how do i stop it!!

im told there its not the sunroof - its the areial thats letting in the water. I think theres a thread here somewhere about it - ill have a look for you.

same happened on my old valver so i sealed all the way round the sun roof frame. Was fine ever since.

But if its the areial then u have to remove the interior lights and ull see a nut thats atatched to the areial just put some sealant around the nut then tighten it up.

This happens on mine - it corrodes the door remote reciever so ive had to remove it!

How do you go about sealing the scumroof?

i just used some clear silicone sealant all the way round the frame on the roof, because it used to leak in thru little gaps. Its messy stuff to work with so i just masked all the way round the paint work just left about half a cm of paint between the sunroof and maskin tape,so i didnt make a mess. Then b4 its dried peel the maskin tape off and uve got a neat job , just gotta smooth it in with yuor fingers until u think it looks tidy.

Mine leaks there too. Just a tiny drip from the old alarm sensor then when i go round a corner a get soaked!!

Ive tried sealing the areial that aint worked. It looks as tho mines leaking through the bit where the sunroof closes and clips in at the front, ive folded up an old rag and placed it just where it clips in at the front and now no leak! But the rag is quite wet now after a few days of rain.

So i think the seals have gone.

seal aerial with some silican sealer.you can get new seals for your sunroof frame.i can get the part number if you want it.

latests plan is to pop the plastic bit on the s/r switch and remot sensor our and get some water poured on to diagnose - then either disconnect the switch for the iwinter and seal with the edge of the s/r vaseline or if its the ariel i will re-seat as described.

thanks for the help ill let you know how i get on

JAY172-- Ill have the part number if youve got it mate,That will be tops.Ive got a Phase 1 Valver 1993 - K reg. Electric sunroof.

16v - 2.0-- You do that. Take off the the control panel for the sunroof and the alarm sensor thing, close the sunroof then get someone too pour water all over the sunroof, Round the edge of the glass-the front-and the seals. This may be easier with a hose pipe as the water needs to be running for a bit to actually start leaking unless its a really bad leak. I done this and found it was coming in through the front off the sunroof just where it closes and locks in.

on a R19 i had before they were at the two from corners(nearest the bonnet) little holes that run down the door pillar, i doubt there would be anywhere else on other cars as there is no alternative route for them to drain unseen.

vaselined my ariel yesterday (oh er!) just waiting for some serious rain to see what happens
