Light wight fly wheel

Don't think you will actually lose torque. Engine will rev quicker, so you will accelerate fractionally quicker, but on the downside a lightweight flywheel will mean a jerkier drive i think as a flywheels' momentum helps to smooth power delivery. A lighter flywheel will also mean u will lose momentum up slopes etc quicker. From what i remember from GT3!!

engine will rev quicker. WOuld say is only really worth while if you have/intend to heavily modify your car, as its not a cheap mod to carry out for the gains you get. I was quoted around 300quid for removing, lightening and refitting my flywheel, personally would rather just get a decat/sports cat back on

Doesn't lightening the flywheel reduce stress on parts of the engine too? So it's a good thing to do in a way?

nah, the inertia carried doesnt effect the actual torque output from the engine.

so the obvious benefit is that the engine gets into its powerband quicker, there are so many myths surrounding car tuning its untrue

yup, most of the crap you'll hear spouted on forums are so generalised that they just arent worth taking note of.

Everything in an engine needs to be considered as a system, and wholisitcally, looking at each component on its own is useless.

there arent any down points as such...

my stock one is lightened by the max u can (trigger pattern removed, cant remember exact weight). someone mentione "jerkiness"...well, all i can say is that when u come off the throttle, thereis a slight increase in "jerk"...but it certainly isnt detrimental....it wouldnt hardly be noticed unless u were looking out for it.

I've also heard (similar to something previously mentioned), a lighten flywheel doesn't hold as much energy (jerk on lifting off the throttle), but also will loose more energy on a bumpy ride. Hence (from a reliable man in the pub, lol) Rally cars don't have lightened flywheels (well not that light anyway).

Am I talkin crap (and should stay off the beer)???

it could be argued that they would loose energy going up a hill......for example.

Got a lightened fly on mine and you honestly wont notice any difference at all.

The car is slightly jerkier to drive although i had cams and other mods carried out at the same time so it could be attributed to them.

On the whole tho, i wouldnt bother
