Lightened flywheels

Ive had a search on here but havent found a huge amount. Any fitted one of these to 172/cups? Id have thought the revvy clio engine would love this, unless its already lightened by renault?

id ring Andy at GDI, as his Renault 5 GTT flywheels are very popular, got one on mine

im told lightening the fly isnt a good thing if your lacking in torque - drilling / balancing the fly may help your engine rev quicker, but in turn looses torque

Dont know about this losing torque thing. I had a fair bit taken off around the edge of my valver flywheel and I didnt notice ANY negative effects like this supposed trouble getting up hills. It was all good news, noticeably freer revving and you just get used to driving slightly different cos of the greater rev drop between gears.

it will effect it to a certain extent due to the lack of momentum but would only really be noticeable with a REALLY light fly or a car with little torque already

yea i wonder how a 250 bhp turbo would struggle up a hill ;)

the weight of the flywheel helps with the engine momentum. a lightened flywheel will just make the engine easier to rev. the only disadvantage is maybe a lumpier idle and the revs might drop quicker in between gear changes. im sure there are more worthwhile mods for the same money that you could do before going for a lighter flywheel.

The stock flywheel is horribly balanced..........

And it wont affect torque.

its merely an energy store.

you will not notice a loss of torque..... the engine revs so damn fast with a lightened flywheel....

if the engine was say 50 bhp and you put a lightened fly on it then yes you might notice.... but not with a 150 + bhp car....

anyway this subject has deffo been discussed before...

we lightened a valver flywheel recently with high lift cams etc etc... it was a load better to drive...

the only dissadantage you might "notice" would be you need to give it some more gas when pulling off at lights etc..
