Lightweight oils.......

A friend of mine scared me stiff when he told me that Renault have a habit of putting light or thin oils in the car when its new to aid the running in process. Now my cars hit 5000 miles on the same oil the engine should be drawing its final breath? Is this so called friend telling porkies or shal I start making a large hole for me car? Also because I bought my car as an import I get no servicing at all, and all my books are in German, whats the best thing to do? Should I have changed my oil at 1000 miles or just wait for my 12000 mile service? Sorry to sound thick, but my local Rnault dealer said that cos its imported I get no support or anything apart from 2 years warranty!! Any replies would be sweet. Chow.

Hmmm, hard to say but to be honest a regular oil change should be done to keep the engine healthy!

And with a new engine i would have said a oil change after about 1000 miles wud have been a good idea! ;)

sounds like porkies.since the engine has got to go to 12000 before the oil gets changed then they would put some decent oil in it.

Cheers JAY so you never took yours back 4 a 1st? or didnt u need one? By the way, Im very miffed that I didnt buy a cup since I got dun by one the other day!

no i just waited to 12000 and changed it then.if renault thought there was a need to change it at a 1000 miles they would put it in the schedule, after all they garauntee the engine for 3 years normally so they wouldnt want it to go wrong because it costs them money.your dealer sounds a bit unhelpful dont they?

Yea no joke! these guys need a good pasting for all the damage they put on my car! Dents chips and even chunks out of the bumpers, all denyed and blamed on me of course, but one good thin did hapen which made me laugh.... I walked out of my house that is on top of a big hill and looked down on Epsom to see a large cloud of smoke and my Renault dealer in flames. I laughed very hard.:devilish:

Its true, they USED to put thinner oil (i.e. running in oil) in a new engine and then you drive gently before they do the 1000 mile oil & filter change, but not any more...
