i think it comes on between the 2 to remind you to change up. the limit is 7.5k but its got to warn you before. I think in 1st gear it comes on earlier than that as the revs climb higher more quickly.
When the car is fully warm and in the higher gears it'll be about 7-7.5k. In your lower gears it'll be before that. The shift light will come on as Slippers says.
I would never take the car anywhere near it prior to 15/20 minutes on the road anyway but as its been coming on at 7k well after that i wondered whether the car had been getting fully warmed as the temp needles a bit tempramental and sits just before the middle most of the time (even after my 45 minute journey back saturday with car it sat just below on arrival home) which it didnt on the 182!
I just wondered whether it went of at 7k (or before) if it wasnt getting fully warmed up.
Mine sits below the half way temperature. I don't think I've ever seen it above that, even after 3/4 hours of driving.
If it's not warm it'll come on before 7 in the higher gears. But regardless you'll feel resistance from the engine anyway at around 2-3k when it's not warm. They won't even push through that either, so it'd be pretty hard to get it up to 7k straight from cold.
