Limp mode, Lambda sensor?

Car  MG B roadster/172 cup
Hi, I've ran a search and read through some of the previous threads on Lambdas and limp mode.

I had a new sports CAT (100cell) welded in place last week, now the emissions light has come on and my car is occasionly going into limp mode (172cup), also the engine management light has come on. Is it possible that the heat of welding the cat in place without removing the lambdas might have shagged them?

Would it be wise for me to order a new lambda? Or shall i try swapping them first to see how this effects it? Will the fault codes be reset just by disconnecting the battery for 30mins?

Thanks!
